    This position is at our Magnus Inc location where we have been the leading manufacturer of traction motor support bearings for the railroad industry.

    Since 1885, we have served locomotive manufacturers and repair shops with axle thrust bearings, locomotive journal bearings, thrust washers and other special bearings in high-leaded bronze.

    We supply customers across the globe from our plant and offices in Fremont, Nebraska.


    Responsibilities / Job Duties:


    Collaborate with the production team to develop and implement reconditioning processes for locomotive bearings, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.

    Conduct technical analysis and feasibility studies to identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.

    Design and implement engineering solutions to address challenges related to bearing reconditioning, including material selection, heat treatment, machining, and surface finishing.

    Perform root cause analysis and troubleshoot technical issues related to bearing reconditioning, proposing and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

    Work closely with suppliers and vendors to source materials, components, and equipment required for bearing reconditioning operations, ensuring adherence to quality standards and specifications.

    Provide technical support and guidance to the production team, including training on new processes, equipment, and technologies.

    Collaborate with the quality assurance team to develop and implement inspection and testing procedures to verify the quality and performance of reconditioned bearings.

    Stay abreast of industry trends, developments, and best practices related to bearing reconditioning and railway engineering, integrating new knowledge and technologies into our operations.

    Participate in cross-functional teams and projects aimed at improving overall operational efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

    Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to ensure seamless integration of new products into our foundry operations, addressing technical challenges and optimizing production processes.


    Requirements/Qualifications:
    Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
    Proven experience in engineering roles related to foundry manufacturing, especially working with aluminum castings.
    Strong understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment processes, and machining techniques, with experience working with aluminum and other metals.
    Must be able to troubleshoot through issues, make process improvements, and effectively manage projects.
    Familiarity with quality management systems and lean manufacturing principles.
    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement effective solutions.
    This role will be very hands on. Must have a strong desire to be on the shop floor.


    Open Schedule(s):
    Monday – Friday, dayshift hours.
