    Position is located at Parsons State Hospital & Training Center, days/hours may vary. A negative drug screen is required as a condition of employment.


    All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.

    The person in this position will serve as the Director of Psychology for the entire agency.

    In addition to the direct supervision of the agency psychologists and ancillary staff in the Psychology Department, this person will be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and coordinating all the psychological services provided by the psychology staff for residents and for community individuals referred to the agency for outreach services and will provide direct psychological services to the school-age individuals admitted to PSHTC for service.


    The essential functions of this position require the employee to be able to accurately observe behavior in others to carry out assessment, treatment, consulting, and staff training functions; must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with residents, staff, colleagues, persons supervised, and supervisors directly through personal contact, via the telephone, or in written format.


    Parsons State Hospital is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.


    Qualifications:

    Minimum Criteria:

    Completion of a Master's degree in psychology from an accredited university or completion of a program of study acceptable to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board that meets the requirements to be licensed as a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist, or eligible to become licensed as a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist within two years of employment.

    One year experience assisting individuals through diagnosis, treatment, psychotherapy, and implementation of positive behavior support programs.



    Preferred Criteria:


    Completion of a Doctorate degree in psychology from an accredited university or completion of a program of study acceptable to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board with a license practice as a Licensed Psychologist in Kansas.

    One year of experience assisting individuals through diagnosis, psychotherapy and implementation of behavior modification programs.

    Special Requirements for Minimum and

    Preferred Criteria:

    Two years administrative or supervisory experience overseeing a psychology department or related mental health field (no educational substitution).


    Meet one of the following:

    • Possess a license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.
    • Meet the requirements to become licensed as a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board within two years of employment.
    • Possess a license to practice as a Licensed Psychologist through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board.


    Knowledge of the principles and practices of psychology including testing, diagnostic assessment, treatment issues, intellectual/developmental disabilities, psychiatric impairments, research and design, behavior analysis, individual and group behavior management, and the evaluation of program effectiveness; knowledge of the principles and practices of staff administration, supervision, and evaluation.

    Staff who operates a motor vehicle must possess a valid Kansas driver's license.


    Positions in this class require that at the time of appointment the selected candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services.

    Persons hired must also pass a law enforcement security clearance in compliance with policies of the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services.
