Job description
The Bingham Gound Water District is a quasi-governmental entity formed by Title 42, Chapter 52 of the Idaho Code. As part of our ongoing Mitigation Plan efforts, we are looking to fill a full-time field operations assistant. The job duties will vary depending on ongoing projects, however we have outlined most of them below. This position is unique in that it offers applicants an opportunity to be part of the Idaho state pension program and employer paid health insurance benefits.

Position Summary:
The Field Operations Assistant supports the district's groundwater monitoring, telemetry, and field maintenance programs. This position assists in drill rig operations, drives CDL-licensed equipment, operates heavy machinery, performs concrete and site construction work, installs flow meters and telemetry systems, and provides mechanical maintenance on vehicles and field equipment. The ideal candidate is a motivated, hands-on individual with experience in field construction, equipment operation, and water system maintenance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drill Rig Operations:
- Assist with setup, operation, and maintenance of the District's Foremost DR-30 drill rig.
- Support installation of monitoring wells, piezometers, and test holes.
- Safely handle drilling materials, casing, and equipment.
- CDL & Equipment Transport:
- Operate CDL-licensed trucks and trailers to transport drill rigs, heavy equipment, and materials between project sites.
- Ensure safe loading, load securement, and DOT compliance.
- Heavy Equipment Operation:
- Operate backhoes, excavators, bulldozers, and skid steers for trenching, grading, berm building, and recharge site preparation.
- Assist with site reclamation, canal work, and other field construction tasks.
- Concrete Work and Site Construction:
- Form, pour, and finish concrete pads, thrust blocks, vaults, meter bases, and equipment foundations.
- Perform basic carpentry and site prep associated with concrete installations.
- Ensure quality control and durability of field concrete structures.
- Hydrography & Flow Monitoring:
- Assist with surface and groundwater data collection, including discharge measurements and water-level readings.
- Install, calibrate, and maintain flow meters and telemetry systems (Ethos Connected, Siemens, Seametrics, etc.).
- Mechanical Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on drill rigs, pumps, heavy equipment, and pickup trucks.
- Maintain service records and coordinate preventative maintenance schedules.
- Field and Shop Support:
- Fabricate, weld, or modify components for field applications.
- Maintain organized tools, materials, and parts inventories.
- Support general District operations including recharge projects, canal work, and infrastructure upgrades.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Class A or B CDL with clean driving record.
- Experience operating heavy equipment (excavator, backhoe, bulldozer, or skid steer).
- Ability to form and finish concrete for pads, vaults, or structural installations.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience servicing diesel or gasoline-powered equipment.
- Ability to lift 75 lbs and work outdoors in variable weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of irrigation, canal, or water system infrastructure.
- Willingness to travel locally and work flexible hours during field season.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience with drilling or groundwater monitoring programs.
- Familiarity with telemetry, SCADA, or flow-metering systems.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Knowledge of Idaho canal and groundwater systems.
Compensation and Benefits:
