We are working with a well-established (some divisions have been in business for up to 100 years), large (close to $1B in annual sales and 6K employees world-wide) global textile organization specializing in a variety of textile products including wovens, nonwovens, scrim and geo textiles, life protection / protective and outdoor apparel, industrial and technical textiles, coating, films, fiber, chemicals, etc.
This particular division (since 1966 and in 10 locations globally) is the global leader in technical sailcloth manufacturing (products ranging from cruising yachts to super yachts to competitive racing and a strong factor in numerous Olympic medals and America's Cup wins) and also produces technical fabrics used in outdoor lifestyle brands such as Patagonia, North Face, Black Diamond, and many more (their products have been to Mount Everest and used in space suits and gear.
The company is looking for a Plant Manager for their facility in Eastern Connecticut.This position reports to the President and direct reports include a Production Manager, Demand Manager, Head of Quality, Production Team, and Maintenance lead.
The company is offering a competitive base salary, bonus, and strong benefits package.This position is responsible for day-to-day manufacturing activities to include mixing, winding, finishing, and laminating as well as maintenance.
The ideal candidate will be strong leader and manager, able to implement new manufacturing techniques and technologies, as well as being a strong support to local management.
Experience with textiles or nonwovens, roll goods, lamination, chemical mixing, finishing, etc. is preferred but not required.Overall goals/objectives for the role:
Improve manufacturing operations
Process and KPI implementation and management, implement best practices and have a continuous improvement mindset
Orchestrate/lead the entire manufacturing operation ensuring safety and quality, delivering on-time and to budget
HR – select, hire, train, coach/mentor/develop employees, appoint supervisors, evaluate employee performance, assign responsibilities, policy and procedure enforcement
Reporting – create reports and analysis for leadership
Head up formulations of chemical compositions for adhesives, coatings, finishes, etc.
ERP integration/implementation
Project management and oversight
Increase manufacturing output while minimizing seconds/quality defects
OSHA, EPA, local/state/federal laws and regulation oversight
Chair the Safety committee
BOM optimization
CAPEX, P&L/budgeting oversight
Coordinate with Supply Chain to assure excellent materials management, Production Planning, and scheduling
Lean manufacturing oversight
Support R&D, Sales, and Customer Service areas
Requirements:
5+ years of progressive experience in a technical manufacturing environment
Bachelor's Degree in relevant area (engineering, business, operations, etc. but flexible depending on experience)
Background in technical textiles preferred, knowledge of textiles is a plus
Lean Manufacturing experience is a plus
Systems (including ERP) experience desired and SAP knowledge is a plus
