    Description
    Responsibilities:
    • Performs entry-level preventative maintenance on a variety of automobiles, vans, trailers, and light trucks, including emergency vehicles.
    • Performs minor body repairs.
    • Cleans and inspects parts.
    • Repairs and changes tires.
    • Installs and repairs emergency equipment such as light bars, sirens, two-way radios, and cages.
    • Performs preventative maintenance tasks including oil/filter changes, lubrication of parts, inspections/replacements of belts and hoses.
    • Test and operates equipment.
    • Follows safety regulations and guidelines.
    • Communicates all changes and problems to Fleet Supervisor.
    • Prepares work orders for vehicles.
    • Responds to inquiries from individuals and employees.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge Required:
    • Exceptional knowledge of methods, principals, and practices of vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair.
    • Exceptional knowledge of vehicle repair manuals and parts books.
    • General knowledge of Sheriff's Office regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • General knowledge of basic tools.
    • General knowledge or radio procedure.
    • General knowledge of Hays County regulations, policies, and procedures.

    Skills Required:
    • Exceptional skill in operating tools and equipment used in vehicle/ equipment maintenance and repair, such as wrenches, micrometers, screwdrivers, welders, portable cranes, drill presses floor jacks, calipers, hand grinders, air impact tools, paint guns and fuel tanks and nozzles.
    • Exceptional skill in performing maintenance and repairs on a variety of vehicles including automobiles, vans, trailers and emergency vehicles.
    • Exceptional skill in customer service.
    • General skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, outside agencies, and the general public.
    • Exceptional skill in reading and understanding vehicle maintenance and repair manuals.
    • General skill in operating standard office equipment, such as personal computers, calculators, and telephones
    • General organizational skills of tools, equipment and parts.
    • General skill in expressing oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    Education and/or Experience:
    • Any combination of experience or training may be substituted on a year for year basis.
    • Requires High School Diploma or GED.
    • Requires three years experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
    • Prefer trade certification from a trade school.
    Other Qualifications, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Class C TX driver's license.
