    Description


    The Certified/Registered Medical Assistant is responsible for the performance of all duties relating to patient care processes in the Urology Clinic.

    The Medical Assistant must be able to communicate verbally in a clear and concise manner to personnel, patients and physicians.

    The position is task and detail oriented, with goal of providing quality patient care in relation to the patient's prescribed diagnosis and treatment needs.

    The ability to provide documentation in electronic format is required.
    Position Responsibilities Assessment and Documentation of New Patient/ConsultReview of patient history, inclusive of prior medical/surgical and urological history and thorough documentation completion, inclusive of assessment requirements in appropriate time frameReview of available information obtained by other health care team members internal and externalRecognition of recent and prior diagnostic test results having relevance to patient current urological health historyProvide urological educational requirements of the urological patient under direction of physician, Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical NurseAssessment of Documentation of Established PatientReview prior patient history and provide updated information in the medical record in an appropriate time frameReview of available information obtained by other health care team members, internal and externalProvide urological educational requirements of the urological patient under direction of physician, Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical NursePerformance of nursing skills present in the urological clinicLaboratory services of venipuncture, urinalysis, and knowledge of laboratory reference laboratory services and their requirementsUroflowPost Void Residual TestingIntravesical AdministrationUrinary CatheterizationPreparation and possible direct assistance of urological office procedures*Urodynamic participation will be based on individual skills and clinic requirementsVital signsMedication Administration injections, intravesical, oral under direct supervision of physicianMedical Assistant CompetenciesCommunicate normal test results to patientsHandle incoming scanned documents/test results; forward to necessary personnel and document accordinglyAbility to cover triage messages in the event team lead is unavailableFill in house pharmacies prescriptionsRequirementsPosition RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalentRegistered/Certified by accrediting programAbility to speak, read, and write EnglishAbility to calculate basic mathStrong communication and interpersonal skillsBasic computer skills/knowledge and keyboarding skillsAbility to work independently or as a teamMust be able to multi-task, use critical thinking and problem solving skills and analyze complex dataPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand, walk or sit for an extended period of timeRequires frequent bending, squatting, stooping or stretchingAbility to perform proper body mechanics and have the ability to assist patients in ambulating, transferring in and out of bed, chair or wheelchairFinger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboardAbility to lift 0-15 pounds without assistancePossess physical agility to respond in a quick manner and appropriately to respond to unexpected patient and family safety needsCustomer ServiceProfessional communication with patients, families, physicians and institutional departments to achieve optimal urological care delivery as directedAssesses and anticipates patient and family response to urological treatment plan and provides for the necessary interventionsProvides for timely communication to patients, families, physicians, and other staff membersRecognizes and reports circumstances and situations not achieving patient/family satisfactionTechnologyProvide for documentation electronic environment following established protocolsEnsure responsibility of current passwords for required institutions and facilitiesE-prescribe applicable patients under the direct supervision of physician and within Advanced UrologySafetyFollow safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above essential functionsFollow standard precautions in the provision of patient care and implements other infection control measures as necessaryUtilizes equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and institutional policyReports/documents unexpected occurrences involving patients and others as appropriateFollows facility specific emergency and disaster preparedness plansAdministrative CompetenciesProtects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines/regulationsMaintains attire standards of the departmental dress codeObserves and respects the confidentiality of information in regards to patients, doctors, and fellow employeesMaintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changesCross trained to primary tasks of reception, medical records, and scheduling
