Duties:

Job Summary:
Carries out all aspects of direct respiratory care as per physician's orders and/or approved protocols.
Consults with physicians on therapy effectiveness and offers suitable recommendations.
Provides necessary ventilator support and oversees other cardiopulmonary life support equipment.
Maintains and appropriately uses respiratory care equipment.

Essential Functions:

Demonstrates proficiency in various oxygen delivery modes and methods and the required equipment for each, performing prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate oxygenation.

Administers therapeutic procedures, comprehending their purpose, benefits, and potential associated effects.
Executes diagnostic procedures per policy.

Starts, monitors, and upholds mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilators, understanding critical care responsibilities and therapy effects.

Assesses current therapies independently using proper judgment and protocols, providing suitable recommendations regarding care plans and patient education requirements.

Records therapy and outcomes as mandated by hospital, department, and regulatory bodies.
Conveys information to relevant healthcare team members.
Initiates, executes, and adjusts respiratory care techniques in emergency situations.

Conducts and assesses blood sampling analysis with a comprehensive understanding of values, significance, and treatment of abnormal results.

Works autonomously in all patient care areas and supports colleagues in patient care whenever feasible.
Adheres to departmental safety protocols.
Meets all regulatory demands.
Passes annual proficiency evaluation of respiratory care equipment and procedures.
Demonstrates proficiency in electronic medical records and its integration with the Respiratory Care Department.

Skills:

Physical Requirements:
Involves repetitive physical tasks.

Capable of walking and standing to fulfill duties.
Ability to lift items weighing 20-50 pounds.
Capable of moving patients across all age groups.
Adequate hearing and vision are essential.
Exposure to work environments that might include odors, dim lighting, and cramped conditions.

Education:
Graduate from an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Care or health science associate degree mandatory.
Bachelor's Degree preferred.
RRT (NBRC) certification mandatory.
State License as Respiratory Care Practitioner essential (must hold a valid license in the state of practice).

BLS,
ACLS,
PALS (AHA or ARC) compulsory.

NRP compulsory.

Certifications & Licenses:

RRT (Registered Respiratory Technician)
State License as Respiratory Care Practitioner essential (must hold a valid license in the state of practice)
