    PAYROLL TAX SPECIALIST
    Reports to :

    Payroll Manager

    JOB SUMMARY :

    The Payroll Tax Specialist will handle all aspects of payroll tax compliance for The Aleut Corporation (Aleut) including timely filing and remitting payroll taxes, responding to notices, and staying updated on tax regulations.


    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Research and resolve payment or filing discrepancies on accounts.
    • Coordinate with Payroll Manager/Supervisor to resolve taxing issues.
    • Manage and maintain assigned tax accounts.
    • Ensure compliance with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on necessary actions.
    • Work with the payroll staff to correct tax errors.
    • Research, resolve, and communicate complex payroll garnishment issues.
    • Reconcile general ledger account for both taxes and garnishment.
    • Oversee the tax and garnishment payment and filing process.
    • Coordinate year-end activities with department leads including preparing W2's.
    • Participate in and coordinate internal and external audits of payroll controls, tax data, and records.
    • Work as a team member with flexibility and adaptability.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.

    • Knowledge of payroll taxes (Federal, state, and local tax regulations) and deductions.
    • Ability to make decisions, solve problems, and take initiative to improve processes and procedures.
    • Strong communication, summarization, and presentation skills between diverse audiences.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the leadership team, managers, co-workers, and outside contacts.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills utilizing proper grammar, spelling, editing, and proofreading.
    • High level of organization with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Knowledge of Aleut, its subsidiaries, non-profits, and resources within the region.
    • Maintain a high degree of confidentiality, integrity, and tact in dealing with sensitive information.
    • Possess and demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity.
    • Possess strong analytical skills to review, evaluate, and synthesize information.
    • Proficient in Adobe and MS Office Programs including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and Outlook.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Associates degree in accounting or related field, or equivalent experience in payroll taxing.
    2. 2-4 years of payroll tax preparation experience or experience in a similar role.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience at Alaska Native Corporations.
    • Knowledge and experience with Costpoint.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Must have ability to maintain assigned work hours in a 40+ work hour environment.
