    ABOUT THE POSITION
    District Court is accepting qualified applications for the position of Marshal Sergeant (Investigator).

    This position conducts in-depth background checks on new hires for District Court, handles internal investigations and protects all court personnel, attorneys, and visitors of the court, and takes emergency action and/or notifies emergency personnel as the situation warrants.

    Review and sign off on investigative reports. Prior investigative experience is preferred.

    Must be able to successfully pass the J-Link tests for access and utilization of the J-Link system within three (3) months of hire.


    This examination will establish an eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next 6 (six) months or may be extended as needed by District Court Human Resources.

    This recruitment may be used to fill term (Limited-Permanent) positions.

    The selected candidates will be hired for a special project or duties of a limited duration, and be required to sign a term of employment letter specifying condition and exact dates of employment.

    The successful candidates will be eligible for benefits during the duration of employment.

    This position is a non-union position and excluded from membership in the union.


    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:


    Equivalent to graduation from high school, AND three (3) years of full-time experience as a Bailiff/Marshal in a court setting OR as a Law Enforcement Officer with a current Nevada State P.O.S.T.

    Category II (or higher) certification or be able to obtain a Nevada State P.O.S.T. Category II certification through reciprocity. Prior lead or supervisory experience required. If reciprocity candidate, must be capable of passing P.O.S.T. pre-agility Fitness Standards as defined by N.A.C b)(1).

    Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

    Working Conditions:
    Wear a uniform as specified. Carry a firearm and meet and maintain applicable certification. Possess or obtain CPR and first-aid certification.

    Licensing/Certification and other Requirements:

    Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada State Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Category II Certification or higher, or have completed a certified Nevada Peace Academy Category I training program at time of application.

    Must be capable of passing Nevada P.O.S.T.

    Category I State Physical Fitness Examination as defined by NAC Must meet the minimum standards for appointment as defined in NAC Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.

    A valid copy of a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Category I or II certification is required at time of application.

    Background Investigation:
    Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. The background investigation may include a psychological, suitability, and polygraph evaluation. Periodic background investigations may be conducted.

    Medical Examination:
    Employment is contingent upon the results of a medical examination performed by our examining physician.

    Pre-Employment Drug Testing:
    Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.


    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
    Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises and reviews the work of assigned full-time and part-time Bailiffs/Marshals. Recommends selection of staff; trains assigned staff in court and related security procedures. Evaluates employee performance and effectively recommends employee selection, initial disciplinary action and other personnel actions.

    Maintains procedures to protect the safety of the judges and the court's property, protects all court personnel, attorneys and visitors in the courts.

    Takes emergency action and/or notified emergency personnel as the situation warrants; may administer basic first aid or CPR if required.

    Assists transportation officers in moving detainees to and from the courtroom, holding cells and vehicles.

    Acts as liaison between the judge, attorneys, courtroom staff and the public in order to ensure the orderly conduct of court business.

    Contributes to the overall quality of the court's service provision by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures.

    Opens and locks secured areas and facilities; sets up courtroom for operation. May execute warrants of arrest as assigned.

    May perform general office support work, deliver or pick-up documents and other materials and assist the judge in other ways as instructed.

    Writes investigative reports and utilize computers and associated programs/databases.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS


    Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, strength to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

    Strength to effectively subdue and/or remove persons in difficult or emergency situations.
