The Bay Area offers a blend of people, innovation, and adventure from Silicon Valley to the historic neighborhoods of Oakland, San Jose, and San Francisco, to the farmlands and vineyards.

    THE ORGANIZATION(S) AND GOVERNANCE STRUCTURE
MTC operates from its headquarters on Beale Street, supporting two government entities, MTC and ABAG. ABAG is a public entity created by local governments to meet land use planning needs. ABAG also hosts various entities related to environmental protection, disaster resilience, energy efficiency, financial services, and more.

MTC is responsible for transportation and housing planning, coordination, and financing in the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area. It serves as the regional transportation planning agency and, for federal purposes, as the regions Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). MTC's responsibilities include development of a Regional Transportation Plan, allocation of transportation funds, and advocacy for growth and air quality.
