    We are seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology committed to excellence in teaching to join our vibrant academic community.

    This position has a start date in August 2024, is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 9-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.


    The School of Psychology, Sociology & Rural Studies offers undergraduate majors in Criminology, Psychology, and Sociology; undergraduate minors in Criminal Justice, Mental Health Services, Psychology, and Sociology; and a Master's degree in Community Development.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Teach in-person and online undergraduate courses in Psychology (typical courseload per academic year is three courses in the fall term and three courses in the spring term; summer teaching is optional and is based on availability).
    • Mentor undergraduate students in research.
    • Maintain an active research program.
    • Provide service to the School, College, and University as well as service to the profession.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Completion of a doctoral degree in Psychology (or a closely related area at the doctoral level) by start date with a specialty in applied behavior analysis, clinical psychology, or health psychology.
    • Experience in teaching at the college/university level in psychology with evidence of teaching effectiveness.
    • Potential or experience in teaching one or more of the following: Introduction to Psychology, History & Systems of Psychology, or Abnormal Psychology.
    • Evidence of a promising research program.
    • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Experience mentoring undergraduate research.
    • Online teaching experience.
    • Grant-writing experience.
    • Potential or experience in developing/teaching a course in area of expertise.
