    The Endocrinology Division, Department of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative basic, translational, or clinical researcher and invites applications for a tenure-eligible position at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor level, researching the broad area of endocrine/metabolic health (MD and/or PhD or equivalent required).

    Service work will be limited to the equivalent of one half day of clinic per week and 4-5 weeks of inpatient consults, supervising fellows.


    Faculty appointment will be in the Department of Medicine (Endocrinology Division), which boasts a vibrant, highly interactive, collegial environment with state-of-the-art facilities.

    Research strengths of the division include bone and mineral metabolism, diabetes, and obesity, with a growing pituitary group.

    Faculty would be joining a vibrant research community within the IU School of Medicine, which is part of a broader research ecosystem in Indiana that includes public and private partners.

    'Responsibilities:


    • Maintain and expand a strong, extramurally-funded research program in translational/clinical research
    • Contribute to the academic mission of IU and the various centers
    • Be committed to training the next generation of endocrine/metabolic clinicians and researchers
    • Clinical responsibilities will be appropriate to the qualifications of the faculty member and will be limited to the equivalent of one half day of clinic per week and 4-5 weeks of inpatient consults, supervising fellows.


    IUSM is home to the NIH-funded Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), which is a statewide research partnership between IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame University.

    IUSM is also affiliated with the prestigious Regenstrief Institute, a national and international leader in patient-centered research and health informatics, and the Indiana Biosciences Research Institute, connecting academic institutions and industry partners in Indiana.


    Diabetes research at IUSM is enhanced by the Center for Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases (CDMD), one of 18 NIH P30 funded Diabetes Research Centers.

    Over 90 faculty are members of the CDMD, which provides support for research cores, pilot and feasibility grant funding, and a number of enrichment activities, including an Annual Diabetes Symposium and weekly multidisciplinary seminar series.

    IUSM diabetes faculty provide leadership to several large national and international multisite networks and studies, including Type 1 Diabetes TrialNet, the Network for Pancreatic Organ Donors with Diabetes (nPOD), the Integrated Islet Distribution Program, the Immune Tolerance Network, the Restoring Insulin Secretion (RISE) study, the Comparative Effectiveness Study of Major Glycemia-lowering Medications for Treatment of Type 2 Diabetes (GRADE), the Human Islet Research Network, and the Rare and Atypical Diabetes Network (RADIANT).

    Our T2-T4 efforts are led by the Diabetes Translational Research Center (DTRC), which also has a large number of investigators.


    The Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health (ICMH) includes over 100 outstanding, internationally known researchers in the areas of basic, translational and clinical musculoskeletal research at Indiana University, Purdue University, and elsewhere.

    The Center houses numerous Cores including an animal musculoskeletal phenotyping core, histology and histomorphometry core, 3D bioprinting core, and an NIH funded clinical research P30, which hosts the Functional Imaging and Tissue (FIT) resource core and the Musculoskeletal Informatics Methodology (MIM) Core.

    Endocrine faculty conduct basic, translational, and clinical research in osteoporosis, rare bone and mineral disorders, and complications involving bone in other diseases.

    Previous accomplishments of IUSM faculty include the discovery of FGF23, which led to the development of burosumab, uncovering the relationship between iron and FGF23, and identification of several genes causing different bone metabolism disorders.

    Basic Qualifications


    Basic Qualifications:

    • Doctorate or Terminal degree is required
    • Applicants must be eligible to be licensed and practice medicine in the State of Indiana, If they desire a position with clinical responsibilities.
    Other qualifications will be based on rank sought (Assistant, Associate, Professor), including a record of research productivity, extramural funding, and national/international reputation for excellence in research
