Summary:
The Enterprise Data and Analytics (ED&A) group at Cencora is looking for a senior data scientist interested in leveraging internal and external data to answer a myriad of business questions related to sourcing, pricing, and distribution of pharmaceuticals across the United States.
These problems may include segmenting customers by purchasing behavior, modelling customer lifetime profitability, forecasting financial and operational metrics, predicting win/loss rates in contract negotiations, and others.
Data Scientists are responsible for using advanced analytics techniques to model complex business problems, discovering insights, and identifying opportunities through statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques.
In addition to advanced analytics skills, Data Scientists are also proficient at integrating and preparing large, varied datasets, implementing specialized database and computing environments, and communicating results.
Individuals in this role work closely with business stakeholders, Business Analysts, Data Engineers, Data Visualization Specialists, and other team members to leverage data to support sound organizational decisions.
They are creative thinkers who propose innovative ways to look at problems by employing data exploration and predictive modeling techniques across a wide range of data assets while validating their findings using an experimental and iterative approach.
These individuals are often asked to present their findings to business stakeholders, exposing their assumptions and validating their work in a way that can be easily understood.
Successful candidates will showcase a combination of business focus, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and programming knowledge to be able to quickly cycle hypotheses through the discovery phase of the project.
Also required are the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, as well as an innate curiosity around wanting to understand business processes, business strategy and strategic business initiatives to help drive incremental business value from enterprise data assets.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Improve organizational performance though the application of original thinking to existing and emerging analytic methods, processes, products, and services, and employ sound judgment in determining how innovations will be deployed to produce return on investment
Working with business stakeholders identify business problems, opportunities and/or initiatives for which analytics models may provide insights that can contribute to or drive the development of an approach or solution
Conceptualize, design, and develop analytics models in addressing complex business problems, discovering insights, and identifying opportunities that are of value to internal and external business stakeholders, typically using a hypothesis-driven approach
Working with Data Engineers determine how to best source data, including identification of potential proxy data sources, and design business analytics solutions, considering current and future needs, infrastructure and security requirements, load frequencies, etc.
Where appropriate help seed data science capabilities within business functions, essentially developing "citizen data scientists" within the business teamsShow strong team building and creative thinking skills, and a desire to "make a difference"

Leverages knowledge of internal and external data sources and builds up specific business data domain expertise
Data Requirements:
Identifies what data is available and relevant, including internal and external data sources, leveraging new data collection processes as needed
Collaborates with subject matter experts to select the relevant sources of information
Works with others to support data collection, integration and retention requirements based on the input collected with the business
Translates business requirements into semantic access, conceptual, logical and/or physical data models
Analytics:
Solves business analytics problems and communicates results and methodologies
Works in Agile or iterative processes with business stakeholders and validates findings
Develops experimental design approaches to validate findings or test hypotheses
Validates analysis by comparing appropriate samples
Employs the appropriate algorithms to discover patterns
Data Quality:
Assesses, with business stakeholders, the expected qualification and assurance of the information in support of a use case
Defines the validity of the information, how long the information is meaningful and what other information it is related to
Working with Data Engineers, develops data profiling and preventative procedures to improve data quality
Analyzes data issues and works with Data Engineers for problem resolutions
Identifies problematic areas and, with Data Engineers, conducts research to determine the best course of action to correct the data, identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns in complex datasets
Communications and Presentation:
Presents and depicts the rationale of findings in easy-to-understand terms for the business
Can clearly present and depict the technical and statistical methodologies applied to a problem to other data scientists, engineers, and analysts
Presents back results that contradict common belief, if needed
Communicates and works with business subject matter experts
Change Advocacy, Coaching and Mentoring
Educates the organization both from IT and the business perspectives on new approaches, such as testing hypotheses and statistical validation of results.
Provides technical coaching and mentoring to less-experienced team members and "citizen" data scientists
Support
Troubleshoots and implements enhancements and fixes to systems as needed
What your background should look like
Bachelor degree in mathematics, statistics or computer science or related field; Master degree preferred
Typically requires 3+ years of relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience
Solid knowledge of statistical techniques
The ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets
Strong programming skills (such as Hadoop MapReduce, Spark or other big data frameworks, Java, Python) and statistical modeling (like SAS or R)
Experience using SQL to access and analyze data
Experience using machine learning algorithms
Proficiency in the use of statistical packages
Proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing and optimization algorithms
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of one or more business/functional areas
