Job DescriptionResponsibilities:
Develop and maintain an extensive wine list that complements our onboard dining options and meets the preferences of our guests onboard a cruise ship
Source and purchase wines from reputable suppliers, ensuring quality and value for money
Train and manage a team of sommeliers, providing guidance and support to ensure exceptional wine service for our guests
Conduct wine tastings and educational sessions for guests and crew members
Create and update wine menus and provide recommendations to guests based on their preferences and budget
Oversee wine inventory and ordering, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage
Work closely with the culinary team to ensure wine pairings are well-matched with menu offerings
Collaborate with the onboard events team to plan and execute special wine events and tastings
Maintain knowledge of current wine trends and industry developments, and make recommendations for updates to the wine program as needed
Uphold high standards of customer service and professionalism at all times
Adhere to all company policies and procedures, as well as local and international regulations relating to alcohol service
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a sommelier, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role
Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, and vintages
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and manage a team effectively
Excellent customer service skills and a passion for providing exceptional guest experiences
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Proficiency in wine service techniques and proper storage and handling procedures
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Certification from a recognized sommelier program preferred, but not required
