POSITION SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Director of Housekeeping Services will be to oversee the housekeeping and laundry department. Responsibilities will include: Monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and modeling the work standards of the facility for the department, along with implementing and monitoring changes when needed within the department. The responsibility is to assure the entire facility has a standard of cleanliness, including daily and deep cleaning.  Laundry includes bed linens/ personal care items, clothing, drapery and other service related linen items.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

•    Responsible to hire, train, evaluate and discipline when necessary 

•    Participates in the employee life cycle process, this includes hiring, discipline and terminations

•    Create staff schedules to efficiently cover all work areas, while remaining within budget  

•    Maintains a positive professional demeanor towards residents, staff, visitors, families and co-workers at all times

•    Meet with housekeeping/laundry personnel on a regularly scheduled basis, and assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.. 

•    Creates deep cleaning program and scheduling for Main Building 

•    Provides coaching and mentoring to employees when needed, gives appropriate motivation to employees

•    Completes employee evaluations in a timely and accurate manner, giving employee feedback throughout the year

•    Ensure that departmental disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status.

•    Review complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel and submit to the Administrator as required or as necessary

•    Consistently seek the best quote and pricing for all supplies ensuring the facility is not over paying

•    Create implementation actions for those items with loss, including follow up actions to ensure zero loss

•    Monitor procedures to ensure that supplies are used in an efficient manner to avoid waste 

•    Maintain departmental budget, keeping Administrator and CEO aware of any changes 

•    Maintaining strict inventory levels and ordering supplies for housekeeping supplies, disinfectants, equipment etc.

•    Determine and recommend to the Administrator and or Human Resource Director staffing requirements necessary to meet the housekeeping/laundry department's needs

•    Monitor absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of personnel are on duty at all times

•    Standardize the tasks in housekeeping and laundry to provide a more efficient workflow for employees, provide standardized training and materials to employees

•    Ensures that all employee equipment is in good working condition at all times and that employees have the "right" equipment to perform their tasks

•    Effective supervision of all staff to ensure the highest quality of cleanliness and safety is maintained

•    Inspect, maintain and assure the highest degree of resident quality and comfort are achieved at all times

•    Maintain a productive working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinate housekeeping and laundry services to assure that care and services can be performed without interruption.

•    Inspecting and evaluating the physical condition of all areas of the building and coordinating with the Maintenance Department for any needed repairs

•    Works closely with the Director of Maintenance to maintain the appearance and safety of the building

•    Works with the interdisciplinary team for new admissions, including but not limited to ensures all rooms are properly prepared 

•    Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related functions to ensure that housekeeping/laundry tasks involving potential exposure to blood/body fluids are properly identified and recorded.

•    Develop, maintain, and implement infection control and universal precautions policies and procedures to assure that a sanitary environment is maintained at all times and that aseptic and isolation techniques are followed by all Housekeeping and Laundry personnel.

•    Ensure that all Housekeeping and Laundry personnel use appropriate personal protective equipment and supplies when handling and disposing infectious materials and/or hazardous wastes or chemicals according to established policies governing the use and disposal of above items.

•    Ensure that cleaning supplies used by the facility for disinfecting and decontamination purposes are EPA approved.

•    Ensure that containers of hazardous chemicals in the Housekeeping and Laundry Department are properly labeled and stored. Obtain and maintain proper material safety data sheets for all chemicals used.  Assure that the Material Management person has copies of all MSDS for the master manual. 

•    Develop and maintain all department policies and procedures, complete a review at least annually

•    Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, scheduling, etc., of in-service training classes, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for housekeeping and laundry personnel.

•    Ensure that all housekeeping and laundry personnel attend and participate in annual Mandatory In-service Day covering OSHA and CDC training programs for hazard communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens standard

•    Responsibly report any concerns related to Corporate Compliance issues according to established procedures.

•    Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.

•    Participate in QAPI quarterly meetings and assigned projects that lean toward a proactive program of identifying areas in need of improvement as well as a reactive response to matter concern that are identified.  

•    Assists in tasks as needed in departments

General

•    Respond to fire alarms as required (refer to Fire Safety Manual for employees' responsibilities and those that are specific to your position.

•    Treat all residents fairly, with kindness, dignity and respect. Maintain confidentiality of all resident and facility information. 

•    Report all complaints, concerns made by the resident, allegations of abuse or neglect to direct supervisor or the RN Supervisor. 

•    Follow all safety procedures and precautions in the performance of your duties and when operating equipment. Report all safety violations, unsafe or hazardous conditions and any equipment issues immediately.

•    Review Corporate Compliance educational materials, comply with Corporate Compliance directives, and report any Corporate Compliance issues according to established procedures.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

•    Ability to provide care/services in a manner supportive of the Mission and Philosophy of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm.

Qualifications

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent

Experience: Two (2) years' experience as a supervisor in housekeeping/laundry operation preferable in

  a long-term care setting; At least 1 (1) year experience purchasing with proven results negotiating     

Certificates & Licenses: OSHA 10 preferred
