    The Opportunity

    The Controls Engineer, Plant & Equipment Controls will be responsible for the design and development of automated systems from concept through manufacturing. This individual will support in assessing AGI's current equipment controls, plant wide automation, and user interfaces across multiple product offerings and be a key member driving forward the development of a best in-class standardized global platform to be utilized corporatewide. They will work on cost reduction via standardization and the development of a Configure to Order (CTO) platform. It is essential that this individual possesses hands-on experience with plantwide automation, equipment control panels, PLC Programing, and 3-phase electrical designs.

    The Team

    The role will report to the Engineering Manager - Global Product Management - Plant & Equipment Controls and be part of the team responsible for new product development for process controls and plantwide automation.

    Responsibilities
    • Assist in the design, development, and standardization of programming schemes that can be leverage across multiple process platforms offered by AGI; including PLC/HMI/SCADA level programming.
    • Must have the ability to conceptualize, engineer and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery that meet our customers' requirements including but not limited to: the development of a control system architecture, selecting the hardware components to be deployed, detailing schematic diagrams and system documentation, and functional knowledge of PLC/HMI/SCADA systems
    • Refine designs and offerings to transition from an Engineered to Order (ETO) process to a standardized Configure to Order (CTO) offering while supporting and transitioning legacy systems to the latest product offering.
    • Evaluation and implementation of industrial communication networks (EtherNet/IP, Devicenet, Profinet, MQTT, etc.)
    • Collaborating with Mechanical Engineering teams, service teams, and plant software teams to improve all existing offerings and develop the next generation of Plant and Equipment controls.
    • Help maintain UL508 listing compliance while following established engineering standards and product integrity.
    • Strong collaboration with software development teams by integrating the controls platforms with Plant Manager software
    • Partner with technical resources at multiple locations and product families to develop the best-in-class automation systems to support our processing equipment in meeting market/customer requirements
    • Analyze product offerings for safety, efficiency, and financial risks
    • Be an active participant in Plant and Equipment Controls team bonding activities and culture building.
    • Responsible for following the company's safety policies, procedures, and compliance rules.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCE) from an accredited four-year program.
    • 4-7 years of hands-on process automation/control engineering experience
    • Must have good communication and collaboration skills to work with all levels of the organization. (e.g., electrical drafters, procurement, manufacturing, mechanical engineering teams, quotation team, manufacturing, & application engineering).
    • PLC Programing Experience with one or more programming languages: Ladder Diagram (LD), Sequential Function Charts (SFC), Function Block Diagram (FBD), Structured Text (ST), & Instruction List (IL). Preferred experience in the following platforms: Studio 5000, TIA Portal, Machine Expert, Codesys.
    • Experience with 3-phase power distribution design and implementation (Soft Starts, S-Curves, etc.)
    • Generate bills of materials for UL508A electrical panels
    • Create schematics w/AutoCAD Electrical
    • IEC / CE -European Control Panel Standards is a positive
    • Experience with industrial process automation (examples: oil & gas, food & beverage, water/wastewater, chemical etc. Agricultural: Feed, Fertilizer, Grains are a plus)
    • Comprehend and follow process flow diagrams
    • Experience with data collection software and methods
    • Capability to design process automation & control systems including experience / understanding of Pneumatic Solenoid Valves, Pumping systems with VFD controls, Motor controls for material handling systems including soft-start applications, Automated weighing systems / load cells, Advanced PLC/HMI development capability, Distributed Control / Field Bus, RS232 and RS485
    • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
    • Attention to detail, highly organized and (MS Office) computer literate.

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Strong collaboration and interpersonal communication capability
    • Strong aptitude and understanding of controls/automation systems.
    • Adept at working with other engineering teams to translate from system requirements to automation requirements
    • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage time well

    • MS Office platform proficient including Visio & Project
