    Duties

    The incumbent applies basic knowledge and limited experience while assisting in the test and evaluation of research into, computer science methods and techniques to store, manipulate, transfer or present information by means of computer systems in the National Airspace System (NAS). Incumbent assists in application of the theoretical foundations of computer science, including computer system architecture and system software organization to identify problems relating to NAS systems; assists in developing software systems using a knowledge of techniques, procedures, and processes such as operating system theory, data structures, computer systems, system architecture, software engineering, and computer communications.

    APPOINTMENT - If selected, your appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after completing educational requirements. Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.

    AGREEMENT: All participants must sign a written Gateways Internship Agreement with their manager that clearly identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship etc.

    CONVERSION: Although not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship Program to a permanent appointment without further competition in accordance with established policy. Conversion must occur within 120 days after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of diploma, certificate, or degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career-related work experience, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern's participant agreement. Additionally, the intern must meet qualification requirements and any other position requirements associated with the position to which converted. The intern must be converted to an occupation related to his/her academic training and career-related work experience as outlined in their participant agreement.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for the FV-C, you must be currently enrolled full time or at least half time in an accredited educational institution (college, university, vocational school, trade school, etc.) and show completion of 1 full academic year of post-high school study. Full or half time enrollment is defined by your educational institution.

    BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

    Degree Requirement: course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science.

    This occupation has specific educational requirements for entry and applicants must show evidence that their planned academic program will meet those requirements (i.e. transcript reflecting enrollment in applicable programs). Students who graduate without meeting those requirements may not be converted to the target position and could be separated from federal service. Educational Requirements for conversion to the target position are:you must be enrolled in an accredited college or university in a program leading to a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science; OR pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher which includes 30 semester hours in a combination of computer science, mathematics, and statistics. To be acceptable, at least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
