    Job Description

    The Medical Officer provides overall administrative and clinical direction of DYRS' Health Services Administration, including the design, development, coordination, and delivery of a comprehensive continuum of quality adolescent health care to include screenings and assessments, evaluations, early detection and prevention, treatment, counseling, dental and vision services for detained and committed youth.

    Provides overall management and strategic direction for planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive continuum of health care services (medical, dental, and mental health) and support for detained and committed youth residing in DYRS' secure facilities.

    Assesses the health condition of the patient, diagnoses the medical problem, and determine a method of treatment required for each specific illness.

    Supervises programs and coordinates medical and behavioral health treatment plans for youth.

    Educational Requirements:

    Degree:

    Doctor of Medicine or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in the United States or Canada accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association; or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S.

    Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

    Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least five (5) years of direct clinical experience in treating youth/adolescents in a clinical setting and at least five (5) years' experience monitoring, assessing and improving programs.

    Specialization in adolescent or pediatric medicine and medical quality assurance is preferred.
