    Nature of Work

    Responsible for organizing, coordinating, supervising participants attending the Scheels Aim High Big Sky Aquatic and Recreation Center camps and classes. Work is performed under the direction of the Recreation Program Coordinator or Recreation Center Manager.

    Essential Functions of Work
    • Supervises classes, workshops and activities for persons engaged in recreation programs.
    • Assists in planning, scheduling and implementing special events and recreational activities.
    • Monitors facility and surrounding area to ensure safe and proper conduct.
    • Monitors recreation facilities to ensure security, proper working order of equipment,cleanliness of area and other potential maintenance hazards.
    • Ensures the safety of all program, activity and event participants and providers byfollowing policies and procedures.
    • Reports safety or hazard concerns to supervisors.
    • Performs all other duties as assigned and required.
    • Serves as Ambassador for the department representing the department's goals and mission.
    Education and Experience
    • Knowledge or experience with camps, programs or recreational classes
    • Training in early childhood development, desirable.
    • Prior day care or child care experience, desirable
    NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
    • Must be 16 years old or older.
    • Employee must possess a Montana driver's license.
    • Certified or have the ability to obtain certification in CPR/PR, AED, oxygen administration, disease transmission, and first aid - (Can be obtained by internal training with Park and Recreation Department.)
    • If over the age of 18, must be able to drive a 15 passenger van.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    This position does not supervise staff but does provide direction to participants attending camps, programs and classes.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Work is performed in various indoor and outdoor recreational settings. While performing the duties of the position, employees may be exposed to inclement weather conditions.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.

    EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

    The work week is Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday however often requires working some nights and weekends. Due to the demands of programs on this position, scheduled hours and work days will be varied. This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.

    TRAVEL

    Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
