    Position Summary:

    The IT Architect, Senior articulates the architectural vision, conceptualizes and experiments with alternative architectural approaches. This role is responsible for developing and validating the architecture and high level solution design against business requirements. The IT Architect, Senior works with the Solution Architecture team, development teams, and vendors to design and implement solutions. This role helps teams follow the envisioned business and technology direction by articulating the architectural vision through the scope and lifespan of individual projects.

    The focus for this position is experience with architecture, configuration, design and implementation of a major digital commerce B2C/B2B SaaS offering. Specific experience with SalesForce Demandware is preferred, but not required. The ideal candidate has gone through several end-to-end implementations of a commerce SaaS offering. They should have a thorough understanding of the product catalogs, vouchers, payments, order management and the division of responsibilities between ERP and commerce. Experience integrating digital commerce tools with backend software and content management systems is a plus. Experience with commerce tools supporting both B2B and B2C business models is a plus.

    Assertiveness and creativity are key in this role to drive solutions to the right level of simplicity and abstraction. The candidate should be able to maintain a constant dialog with product owner and stakeholders to help them simplify and accelerate by influencing scope.

    Responsibilities:

    Articulate and document a solution architecture vision


    • Design for business impact following rules of simplicity, consistency, and uniformity in the ecosystem


    • Create solution architectures that are leverage-able for future re-use


    • Actively seek opportunities to leverage existing IT solutions for new business offerings and services


    • Align IT solutions with business functions to improve flexibility, facilitate large scale reuse, and improve comprehensibility and visibility of IT's value to the business


    • Partner with business, Research and other FCE and IT teams in designing IT solutions that match the needs of the business


    • Assess and formulate future architecture and technology direction for IT solutions


    • Aggressively identify enterprise IT application solution/technology initiatives that are of value


    • Collaborate with other architects and teams in execution of the initiatives


    • Review and approve project deliverables to ensure that they are architecturally sound and meet business needs


    • Influence business strategy by explaining the capabilities of the architecture to management and the SBUs (Strategic Business Units)


    • Maintain a broad business understanding including customer and market trends


    • Contribute to future vision and strategy by conducting research and proof of concepts


    • Maintain a broad knowledge of new technical tools and trends, and apply those tools to improving business processes.


    • Map business capabilities and services to IT solutions, and plan IT solutions for future business opportunities


    • Actively seek opportunities to leverage existing IT solutions for new business offerings and services


    • Establish standards in best practice design patterns and pitfalls to ensure that IT solutions perform to expectations.


    • Partner with development teams to develop and enhance detailed application designs and interfaces


    • Facilitate cross team and cross component collaboration


    • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your job function


    • Review cost estimates, validate timelines and assumptions

    Education, Certifications, or Special Licenses:

    Bachelor's degree with extensive coursework in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

    Relevant Years of Experience Required:

    8 years in IT. Minimum 3 years in IT Architecture and application design.

    Other Requirements (Specialized skill sets, behavioral/technical):

    Varied experience in following areas is preferred:

    IT Architecture methodologies, standards and best practices


    • Full software development lifecycle (SDLC) experience


    • Rich and varied IT solutions design and development experience


    • Architecture principles and frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, Gartner, DOD etc.)


    • Application and Integration design methodologies, standards and best practices (SOA, OOAD, AOP)


    • Business requirements gathering, Joint Application Design (JAD), Business Process Modeling (BPM) and Business Process Decomposition processes


    • UML and Business process modeling


    • Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and business integration


    • Industry standard processes (SDLC, CMMI, Change Mgmt, ITIL, etc.)


    • Familiarity with User Interfaces (Web, GUI, Legacy, Handhelds) and usability methodologies


    • Data warehouse design and data modeling


    • Disaster recovery and business availability


    • Vendor package selection (Leverage, Build and Buy decisions)


    • Familiarity with Audit and compliance policies (SOX, HIPAA)


    • Technical and Infrastructure architecture design experience is desirable


    • Software Performance Engineering practice and consultation

    Hands-on experience in one or more of the following technologies is required:


    • Cloud architecture and implementation (AWS or Azure preferred)


    • Java, Java EE, Spring Boot, Java Application Servers (WebSphere, JBoss)


    • .NET


    • TypeScript


    • PostgreSQL, Oracle and/or SQL Server database technologies


    • Linux and/or Windows


    • Influence business strategy


    • Translate business strategy into technical vision and strategy


    • Understand business domains, customer and market trends


    • Capture customer, organizational and business requirements on architecture

    • Excellent communication skills
    • Listen, network, influence
