    Description

    The primary responsibility of the Diagnostic Clinical Therapist within Caravel Counseling and Diagnostic Services (CCD) is to provide support to the diagnostic evaluation process ruling out Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by completing diagnostic interviews with families and serve as an assessment technician, administering psychological tests to children.

    A secondary responsibility focuses on the support of ABA operations (where required) by completing Comprehensive Multi-Disciplinary Evaluations (CMDE) and providing family support to families with children receiving ABA therapy.

    Additional opportunities may exist for the Diagnostic Clinical Therapist to provide individual psychotherapy to children and adolescents, as well as family therapy.

    While the focus of intervention will generally center around ASD, it is possible that a wide range of mental health issues and diagnoses may be addressed.


    Essential Functions:

    • Conducting diagnostic interviews with families, starting the diagnostic evaluation process to answer the referral question: rule-out ASD.
    • Administer psychological testing measures; score measures and provide results along with detailed behavioral observations to the interpreting doctor.
    • Complete CMDEs (where required) by integrating multiple data points including diagnostic evaluation, parent interview, and child observation. Part of the CMDE process is to also recommend and justify treatment.
    • Provide individual psychotherapy to children and adolescents and family therapy using various, best practice treatment modalities required by the individual child and family based on the presenting problem(s).
    • Function as a resource for ABA teams by offering family support to the families of current ABA clients. Regular consultation with the ABA team is an essential aspect of this function.
    • Timely completion of progress notes and other documentation in accordance with company practices.
    • Remains current on all new developments within the arena of diagnosis, psychotherapeutic interventions, and ABA.
    • Assists with the monitoring of clinical quality organization-wide and promotes best practices.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Travel Required:
    Occasional travel between clinics is required as needed.


    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Master's Degree or higher in clinical or counseling psychology or related field required
    • Independently licensed and/or license-eligible within all of the states where Caravel provides service required

    Experience:

    • Experience working clinically with children, adolescents, and families required
    • Experience with individuals with ASD strongly preferred
    • Experience with ABA therapy preferred

    • Natural ability to interact with children. Skilled in carefully observing children and young people and respond to what they might be communicating through their behavior and play
    • Proficient at working with families. Knowledgeable in multiple systemic interventions. Skilled at identifying systemic issues and supporting families through their resolution.
    • Self-motivated, with excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Works cohesively within a team environment in order to deal with complex client problems
    • Demonstrate skills in the areas of coaching, mentoring, and leading others
    • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships

    • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and abide by ethical guidelines and policies, including compliance with HIPAA laws and regulations
