A diversified, privately held automotive enterprise generating $100M+ in annual revenue is seeking a Chief Financial Officer to serve as a strategic partner to ownership and the executive team. The broader platform includes premium automotive dealerships, real estate holdings, aviation operations, and captive reinsurance, all operated with public-company-level discipline and governance. This role offers enterprise-wide responsibility for financial strategy, capital allocation, reporting, and risk management, with direct involvement in acquisitions, real estate development, and long-term value creation. Ideal candidates bring senior financial leadership experience in complex, multi-entity environments and are motivated by the opportunity to shape growth and legacy within a dynamic private organization based in Eugene, Oregon.
We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer to serve as a strategic partner to the Owner/CEO and executive leadership team, with responsibility for enterprise-wide financial leadership, capital strategy, and long-term value creation.
The Role
The CFO will lead all financial functions across the dealership group, real estate entities, aviation businesses, and captive reinsurance platform. This executive will drive financial strategy, reporting, compliance, capital allocation, and risk management, while playing a central role in dealership acquisitions, real estate development, and disciplined growth initiatives.
This role requires public-company-caliber financial expertise combined with hands-on leadership in a complex, multi-entity, family-owned environment. The planning horizon is strategic and forward-looking (1–5 years), focused on sustainable growth, liquidity, and long-term enterprise value.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and execute financial strategy aligned with company growth goals.
- Serve as strategic advisor to President/Owner on profitability, capital allocation, and expansion.
- Lead long-term forecasting, budgeting, and multi-store financial planning.
- Support acquisition modeling, blue sky valuation, and buy/sell transactions.
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls over financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial packages for board and investors.
Dealership Financial Oversight
- Oversee monthly financial statement accuracy and timely close process.
- Ensure compliance with OEM reporting requirements.
- Analyze departmental performance: New & Used Vehicle Operations, F&I, Fixed Operations (Service & Parts).
- Monitor KPIs including gross per retail unit, inventory turns & aging, effective labor rate, absorption rate, floorplan interest expense, and employee expense % of gross.
Capital & Cash Flow Management
- Manage floorplan lines and lender relationships.
- Optimize working capital and inventory financing.
- Oversee banking relationships and debt structure.
- Evaluate cost of capital and capital deployment.
- Lead real estate and facility financing strategy.
Accounting & Controls
- Supervise Controller(s) and accounting teams.
- Implement and maintain strong internal controls.
- Ensure GAAP compliance and proper revenue recognition.
- Oversee annual audits and tax planning.
- Manage risk mitigation, fraud prevention, and compliance.
HR & Compensation Strategy
- Supervise HR Director
- Oversee payroll structure and compensation modeling.
- Monitor commission plans and expense ratios.
- Ensure alignment between pay plans and profitability.
- Help lead HR related initiatives
Technology and IT Oversight
- Supervise IT Director and dealership technology strategy
- Help establish enterprise technology roadmap aligned with operational growth objectives.
- Ensure cyber security protocols, data protection, and compliance standards are maintained.
- Establish and oversee disaster recovery plan, data backup systems, and business continuity.
- Lead digital transformation initiatives to improve customer experience and operational efficiency.
Operational Partnership
- Partner with General Managers and department heads to improve performance.
- Provide actionable financial insights to drive gross profit and cost efficiency.
- Establish performance dashboards and real-time reporting.
- Support digital retailing and operational efficiency initiatives.
M&A & Growth
- Lead due diligence for acquisitions.
- Conduct financial modeling and integration planning.
- Evaluate new business lines including used car expansion, self-storage, and real estate ventures.
Qualifications
- Proven CFO or senior accounting/financial leadership experience.
- Demonstrated success leading acquisitions and real estate development transactions.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to influence at the executive and board level.
- Experience managing banking and lender relationships.
- Strategic mindset with a 1–5 year planning orientation and disciplined execution focus.
- Proven experience scaling operations and improving EBITDA.
