    ** Cover letter required for all positions and optional for facilities, campus services, and hospitality positions unless otherwise specified.Job Description SummaryPlans, organizes, implements, coordinates, administers, and manages rehabilitative exercise training, physical activity, and/or behavioral change intervention(s) on funded research projects. May also conduct non-exercise assessments, assist with participant recruitment and clinic scheduling, and assist with study administration where applicable. Interaction with study participants is substantial, however additional managerial responsibilities such as policy and protocol development, adverse event management and Data and Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB) reporting may be required. Interacts primarily with study subjects, other departmental or University staff, and Principal Investigator, but may also interact and communicate with other investigators or personnel at Wake Forest University School of Medicine / Wake Forest University Health Sciences.Job Description

    Essential Functions:

    • Plans, develops, delivers, and manages research-based exercise training, lifestyle physical activity, and/or behavioral change regimens and collects facility- and/or home-based data.
    • Writes and compiles protocols and procedures for inclusion in study operating manual(s).
    • Exercises judgment to revise or adapt protocols within the context of participant capabilities.
    • Monitors subject compliance with study protocols, prepares individual progress reports for participants, and supervises intervention scheduling of all participants.
    • Develops, implements, and administers contact protocol for follow-up with non-adherent study participants.
    • Collects and compiles information on adverse events and submits reports to Principal Investigator, the Institutional Review Board, the Data and Safety Monitoring Board, study sponsor, and/or other study stakeholders as necessary.
    • Organizes, compiles, and enters intervention data into web-based data entry application(s) and performs data verification and "cleaning" functions.
    • May also conduct non-exercise assessments, assist with participant recruitment and clinic scheduling, and assist with study administration where applicable.
    • Assists Principal Investigator with data reduction and analysis as needed.
    • Employs a collaborative, team-based approach, develops ancillary research hypotheses, and conducts analyses to test hypotheses.
    • Presents findings through oral or poster presentations and scientific papers.
    • May oversee work of student workers. Performs planning, organizing, or administrative functions in support of and necessary to the successful completion of study protocol(s).
    • Compiles, reduces, analyzes, and presents data at professional conferences or through peer-reviewed scientific journals.

    Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Bachelor's degree in Health & Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or related field and two years of experience prescribing and conducting rehabilitative exercise programs.
    • CPR certification.
    • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise Specialist or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist certifications within six months of hire.
    • NIH-approved training in the protection of human subjects within six months of hire.
    • Knowledge in developing, implementing, and administering individualized exercise prescriptions, group-based exercise programs, lifestyle physical activity programs, and/or behavioral change programs, with emphasis on exercise programming for older adults with comorbid health conditions.
    • Proficiency in providing individual and group exercise, lifestyle physical activity, and/or behavioral change education and counseling to older adults.
    • Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to exercise-related adverse events.
    • General knowledge of human research procedures and practices, and ability to develop, implement, and administer research-based exercise training, lifestyle activity, and/or behavioral change protocols; skilled at developing program promotional materials as well as program forms, manuals, and handbooks.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster relationships with individuals who have diverse educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.
    • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and formulate independent judgments consistent with research policies, practices, and protocols.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and other relevant software.

    • Ability to meet the requirements of the University's automobile insurance.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force and lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.
    • Required to be physically fit for moderate-intensity walking.
    • Standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
    • Close visual acuity. Subject to inside environmental conditions.
    • Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

    Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

    • Master's degree with clinical exercise physiology concentration or related and internship preferred.
    • Prior human subjects research experience.
    • Two years of experience prescribing and conducting rehabilitative exercise programs with emphasis on programs for older adults with comorbid health conditions.
