Job summary
The Battery Cell Modeling Engineer is a key technical role within the Battery Cell Engineering team. You will be responsible for advancing Rivian's cell-level reduced-order modeling capabilities, linking cell testing data and physical modeling results to program decisions and cross-functional workflows across cell development, pack thermal, BMS algorithms, and vehicle performance.Responsibilities
This role will lead the development and validation of performance models for battery cells with a specific emphasis on their application in battery system designYou will contribute to the development of accurate models that capture transient behavior under various operating conditions enabling efficient cooling systems prevention thermal runaway extend life developing precise voltage control algorithms enhance perform prevent overcharge/discharge provide foundation advanced BMS functionalities state estimation fault detection predictive maintenance develop innovative numerical techniques improve speed accuracy model guide design experiments optimal utilization resources work integrate SOC SOH SOP algorithms software support improvements battery thermal management system decompose vehicle level requirements cell level requirements M.S applied mathematics physics mechanical engineering chemical engineering closely related field PhD preferred experience years relevant experience complex physical systems lithium ion batteries equivalent circuit modeling fitting optimization algorithms expertise lithium-ion operating principles charge transport reaction kinetics heat generation mechanisms impact design usage conditions safety lifetime familiarity test methods practices instrumentation data acquisition analysis Excellent communication skills track record driving alignment cross-functional teams clear written verbal communication complex topics.
