The Outreach and Admissions Counselor/Career Transition Specialist provides support for a U.S Department of Labor Job Corps contractor. The Job Corps program is a federally-funded residential training program. The mission of Job Corps is to provide career-ready technical and basic skills (academic) training and job placement assistance to program eligible youth ages
Summary of Duties:
Performs Outreach and Admissions activities which include working in partnership with individuals, communities, organizations, schools, social services agencies and other training programs to promote and foster applicant referral.
Responsible for providing support to students to ensure that all student who leave Job Corps as a graduate or former enrollee are engaged in a verified job.
Key Areas of Responsibilities:
Ensures that the Job Corps program maintains a positive public image, strong community and employer partnerships, a pool of eligible and committed applicants, and full utilization of the Job Corps training opportunities.
Maintains weekly contact with all applicants pending arrival and documents all contact.
Assist applicants in developing a career and employability plan.
Participates in evening and weekend
outreach/recruitment
activities as necessary or assigned.
Travels, as needed, for outreach, and file completion.
Provides all applicants with accurate information about Job Corps, including the process for eligibility determination, selection, and assignment of eligible applicants for enrollment; privacy rights and equal employment opportunity information, reasonable accommodation information, and information concerning voluntary enrollment in Job Corps for each individual.
Conducts pre-enrollment, pre-departure, and departure activities to ensure all enrollees arrive at the assigned center as scheduled, and that each new arrival knows what to expect upon arrival and enrollment at the center.
Conducts follow-up andretention/commitment
activities with enrolled students once they arrive on center and throughout their center experience, especially during the first 90 days.
Submits leaves and leave extension requests as necessary and in a timely manner.
Updates career plan and case notes monthly.
Prepares student to transition successfully out of the program.
Provides support to students by arranging transportation as required.
Meets with student a minimum of once every 30 days.
Maintains contact with local agencies and referral sources and utilizes all staff resources to help student succeed.
Acts as a liaison between Job Corps and worksites on student's behalf.
Provides referrals to and registers all assignees with employment agencies.
Coaches graduates on interviewing skills. Coaches graduates on job search strategies
Maintains contact with former students to provide job placement services and assistance.
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field
OR
Associate's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field,
and
two years related experience.
Experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs.
Experience in counseling, marketing, or education is desired.Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
As a Federal Contractor, while North Dakota law may allow individuals to consume marijuana if they have a qualifying medical condition, marijuana is still illegal under federal law.
