    About Navy Medical Corpsmen

    Navy medical corpsmen are healthcare professionals who serve as critical members of the military's medical support team.

    They work in diverse environments, from hospitals and clinics to ships and submarines, providing emergency medical care to service members and their families.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform emergency medical treatment for injuries sustained in the field
    • Provide general medical care, including administering medications and conducting diagnostic tests
    • Serve as an operating room technician and assist with surgical procedures
    • Maintain patient records and conduct research to improve medical care

    Career Paths

    Navy medical corpsmen have several career paths to choose from:

    Hospital Corpsman (HM)

    • Work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, clinics, and on ships or submarines
    • Develop advanced medical skills, including radiology, physical therapy, and dental care
    • Deploy overseas with the Marines as a Fleet Marine Force Corpsman

    Hospital Corpsman Advanced Technical Field (HM-ATF)

    • Work in extreme and challenging environments, such as combat zones or austere locations
    • Develop specialized skills, including search and rescue, deep sea diving, and amphibious operations
    • Work independently or under supervision in these fields
