    Job SummaryThis is a senior position in System Protection within the P&C organization, utilizing a broad knowledge of utility business experience, engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience and education.

    Requires a strong technical background in system protection, relaying and controls to develop and implement protective relaying policies for existing and new transmission and distribution projects.

    Good leadership skills required to lead a team of associates and contractors to ensure successful completion of relay settings for high voltage electrical substations and switching stations up to 500KV.Job ResponsibilitiesSupervise a group of System Protection Engineers and organize and distribute the workload to accomplish the targeted completion and in-service dates.

    Provide guidance and perform reviews of relay setting calculations. Perform Relay Settings. Perform "fault" analysis to determine correct relay operation during failures. The analysis includes writing and verbally explaining results and recommendations made.

    Provide technical assistance to field personnel in implementing relay settings and to assist in troubleshooting during testing and commissioning phase.

    Update and maintain relay I/O guide, review key drawings and one line control prints for adherence to PSE&G system protection standards.

    Mentor, supervise and lead junior engineers and contractors in system protection tasks and toward improving system protections processes. Actively participate in knowledge transfer and acquisition. Oversee special projects involving technical, field personnel, consultants, and contractors. Create vendor tasks orders as well as review and approve invoices for contractors and consultants.


    Additional duties include:


    Be able to provide system protection technical support on call and during off-hours in response to system emergencies and equipment failures.

    Interface with other technical and project disciplines to support project schedules and milestones. Provide relay recommendations for scoping documents. Coordinate as required with system planners, designers, asset experts, project managers, vendors, and construction and operation personnel. Provide technical support during commissioning phases of projects. Be able to demonstrate strong leadership and/or supervisory skills.


    Job Specific QualificationsRequired:

    • B.S in Electrical Engineering.
    • Minimum of eight years of electrical utility experience performing relay settings and knowledge of electrical substations and switching stations equipment, e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, medium voltage switchgear, regulators, capacitor banks, disconnect switches and associated electrical system for switching and substations and or outside plant electric distribution and/or transmission systems.
    • Working experience in the selection of electrical utility microprocessor based relays, calculation of settings and analyses.
    • Candidate must possess knowledge of protective relay schemes and applications.
    • Applicant must have effective problem-solving and decision-making skills, leadership skills, strong planning and organizing skills, must be adaptable and be results-oriented.
    • Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills are essential.
    • On call 24/7 hours to handle emergency replacement work and assist during system emergency situation.
