    Under the direction of the Director of Nursing (DON) Inpatient Services, maintains 24 hour responsibility for the assigned clinical services and/or program within the service line to provide patient care services that promotes safety, evidence based practice, and well being of the patient/family.

    In coordination with the DON Inpatient Services, plans, directs, coordinates and evaluates the overall clinical practice, and some administrative activities.

    Participates in the development, implementation, and oversight of nursing process standards for Perinatal services. Maintains open communication with medical staff and healthcare team to promote a culture of learning and performance improvement.

    Reports directly to Director of Nursing Inpatient Services.
    Reports indirectly to the Chief Nursing Officer.
    Provides direction of Perinatal Services including Antepartum, Triage, L&D, Mom/Baby, Peds Neonate, and Nursery.

    The Perinatal Nurse Manger provides day-to-day supervision to all assigned department staff including Clinical Staff Educator (CSE), RN, and Department Clerk/LVN.

    Works in collaboration with the Perinatal Medical Staff Service Chief, and medical staff who utilize the clinical care areas.
    Collaborates with all members of the Healthcare Team in the coordination of patient care activities.
    Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.

    Supports the Plan for Patient Care and facilitates the delivery of nursing care via the NIH Practice Model specific to Perinatal Department

    Demonstrates clinical and operational knowledge of Perinatal Services and assures the provision of nursing care in accordance with specialty, regulatory and NIHD practice standards.

    Performs direct patient care as needed in accordance to performance standards listed on Skills checklist according to the defined patient populations for Perinatal patients (Pre-hospital visit, Antepartum testing, Triage, L&D, Mom/Baby, Mom/Baby, Lactation Program Support, Peds Neonate).

    Demonstrates ability to practice as an RN within the Method of Practice Primary Care Nursing
    Develops departments of oversight annual goals and objectives (action plans) in accordance with NIHD goals and the overall Plan for Patient Care

    In collaboration with the DON Inpatient Services contributes to the preparation and compliance with department operating budgets enabling department to function within budget constraints.

    Cognizant of environmental factors which inhibit or facilitate patient care in collaboration with DON Inpatient Services
    Monitors Perinatal performance management plans and utilizes quality control and performance management process (RCA, Case Review, FEMCA, Cycle of Change) with management and staff participation to identify patient care issues/problems and to develop action plans to resolve problems, reduce risks, increase safety, improve outcomes and exceed customer expectations
    Within Perinatal Department, ensures that qualified staff are hired and retained. Monitors effectiveness of initial orientation and on-going staff development.

    Oversees the provision of competent care through departments of oversight development, implementation, and ongoing support of appropriate competency based orientation, ongoing education and evaluation programs.

    Complies with departmental staffing practices.

    Demonstrates knowledge of and follows correct chain of command in handling management challenges and patient care issues including crisis situations.

    Assures responsibility for insuring continued professional growth of self by attending formal/informal education/professional activities
    Recognizes the need for and plans research, facilitates implementation of research findings in areas of responsibility and participates in research
    Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well coordinated work effort and to effectively meet work schedules, including an ability to integrate multiple factors which may have an impact on patient care, including variance in human resources

    Skills/Abilities to:

    Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with NIHD staff and the public;
    Establish and maintain professional working relationships with NIHD staff at all levels as well as the public;
    Develop and maintain a high degree of maturity, integrity, and good judgement.
    Utilizing and navigate Electronic Health Record
    Navigate conflict management
    Provide care if needed, as a Perinatal LDRP RN
    Demonstrate good communication and people skills, good judgment and decision-making skills, positive attitude, flexibility, and good problem solving skills
    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience:

    Professional knowledge base of departments of oversight nursing theory, practice and administration; knowledge of Medicare and Medical rules and regulations and cost reimbursement
    2 years direct perinatal manager experience
    5 years progressive leadership experience
    Education:

    Graduate of School of Nursing, BSN/BA required
    Certification:

    Current California State License as a Registered Nurse required
    Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (AHA) within 1 month of hire and on-going
    NRP within 6 months of hire and on-going
    STABLE within 12 months of hire and on-going
    Fetal Monitoring within 6 months of hire and on-going
