    Job Description

    Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc., one of the oldest and largest full-service general contractor is seeking temporary, Engineering Interns.

    General Purpose of Job:

    Engineering Interns with Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. provides hands-on learning experiences directly related to skills needed in a full-time Construction Engineer career. Interns will have the opportunity to develop and learn key roles and functions in construction engineering. Some responsibilities may include, but are not limited to; reviewing shop drawings, submittals, schedules, take offs, pay requests, contract changes and project documentation.

    Functional Responsibilities for Engineer Interns:


    •Support both administrative and construction activities as assigned by supervisor; review proposals, specifications and drawings, perform material takeoffs, prepare cost estimates


    •Learn to work with subcontractors and communicate with vendors


    •Learn to track cost and materials, schedule equipment and follow safety program


    •Maintain records as required for job progress, costs, material usage etc..


    •Learn and assist with planning and scheduling of job and/or job segments.


    •Identify problems and recommend solutions/alternatives as appropriate.


    •Review plans and specifications to determine material requirements, pricing etc...

    Position Requirements:


    •Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related degree


    •Committed to the construction industry


    •Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications


    •Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Office Suite


    •Valid driver's license and transportation preferred

    Skills:


    •Good work ethic- highly motivated, punctual, reliable, productive, cooperative and self-disciplined


    •Strong written and verbal communication skills


    •Good attention to detail, ability to recognize discrepancies


    •Ability to work with others as well as independently


    •Able to work in various types of environments typically found on a construction site

    Salary: $20/hr.
