    Job Summary:

    We seek a highly skilled and seasoned individual to join our team as a Nurse Practitioner. This position is responsible for overseeing healthcare service compliance of the Contracted Healthcare Provider (CHP), who provides comprehensive healthcare assessments of inmates, reviews medical histories, performs physical examinations, conducts diagnostic tests, diagnoses, and treats both common acute and chronic health conditions based on established clinical practice guidelines and protocols.

    This position will be a primary stakeholder in supporting the development of the Patient Care Center Model (PCCM) and monitoring the patient care activities per the model of care expectations, which is inclusive of (1) collaborating with the CHP to develop and implement individualized care plans for inmates with complex medical needs and (2) providing education and counseling to CHP staff on health promotion, disease prevention, and self-management strategies for chronic conditions.

    This position will assess the quality of healthcare services provided to the inmate population. Develop outcome measures, process measures, and structural measures that can be used to support the PCCM. Ensure that the delivery of healthcare services of desirable outcomes are achieved and that deficiencies are remedied as they are found. Analyze and report significant quality and utilization trends, and patterns. Assist in preparations for the division's internal and external audits. Monitors contract compliance.

    Job Duties:

    The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry has embarked on a vision of REIMAGINING CORRECTIONS through four overarching and mission-centered goals:

    Your primary responsibilities will include:
    - Participation in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings to discuss inmate cases, share insights, and coordinate care across disciplines.
    - Supporting education and training to CHP Staff on health promotion, disease prevention, and self-management strategies for chronic conditions.
    - Participating in quality improvement initiatives and research projects to enhance healthcare service delivery within correctional facilities.
    - Conducting comprehensive medical chart reviews and providing feedback on the quality of care for managing and treating patients.
    - Attending meetings and committees.
    - Reviewing patient charts to ensure the documentation of clinical assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant records per departmental policies and procedures; and appropriateness of care.
    - Collaborating with contractors, external healthcare providers, and community resources to coordinate continuity of care for inmates transitioning from correctional facilities to community settings.
    - Drafting policies, protocols, processes, reports, and benchmarks to further enhance quality assurance and timely access to care.
    - As assigned by the ADCRR Medical, Dental, and Mental Health Directors, provide recommendations on updating existing clinical practice guidelines, policies, and procedures.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

    Knowledge of:
    - ADCRR policies and procedures, States and Arizona Revised Statutes.
    - Advanced understanding of nursing principles, theories, and practices.
    - Comprehensive knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical therapeutics.
    - Familiarity with diagnostic procedures, laboratory tests, and interpretation of results. Understanding of healthcare delivery systems, including primary, acute, and long-term care.
    - Knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices related to nursing and advanced practice nursing.

    Skill in:
    - Clinical Assessment: to perform comprehensive health assessments, including physical examination, medical history review, and diagnostic testing.
    - Proficiency in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic health conditions, prescribing medications, and ordering diagnostic tests as appropriate. Implementing evidence-based therapeutic interventions to promote health, prevent illness, and manage disease.
    - Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
    - Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport, build trust, and collaborate with diverse populations.
    - Identifying problems, evaluating alternative solutions, and implementing effective strategies to address clinical challenges.
    - Capacity to lead and coordinate interdisciplinary teams, facilitate collaboration, and promote a culture of patient-centered care

    Ability to:
    - Analyze complex clinical situations, prioritize care needs, and make sound clinical judgments.
    - Provide high-quality, evidence-based nursing care across the lifespan and in various healthcare settings.
    - Capacity to adapt to changing patient needs, organizational priorities, and healthcare environments.

    - Travel to different facilities and complexes, as needed.

    Selective Preference(s):

    Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program.

    Valid and unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the State of Arizona.

    Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner, preferably in a primary care or correctional healthcare setting.

    Pre-Employment Requirements:

    Valid and unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner for the State of Arizona.

    Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

    If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) )

    In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

    Retirement:

    Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
