    Description
    The Laboratory Technician performs routine tests in amedical laboratory to provide data for use in the diagnosis and treatment ofdisease.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Prepares and carries out diagnostic laboratory tests
    • Operates and maintains standard lab equipment
    • Takes precise and accurate notes
    • Prepares specimens, samples, and collective methods
    • Conducts routine maintenance on lab equipment andcalibration
    • Conducts quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses ofbody fluids, such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, under the supervision of aMedical Technologist
    • Performs blood counts, using microscope
    • Conducts blood tests for transfusion purposes
    • May draw blood from patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein,observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood samples
    • May specialize in hematology, blood bank, cytology,histology, or chemistry
    • Other duties as assigned
    Minimum Requirements:
    • High School diploma or its equivalent.
    • Successful completion of Laboratory Technician training withsubsequent certification as a Laboratory Technician preferred.
    • Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
    • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
    • Current CPR if applicable
    • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
    • Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
    • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
    • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
    • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
    • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
    • Computer proficiency required
    • Must be at least 18 years of age
