    BASIC FUNCTION:


    Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant, Investments is responsible for the accounting, reconciliation and analysis of the Institute's investment portfolio.

    Applies principles of accounting to analyze investment information to record transactions, prepare financial reports, test investment valuation and prepare information for tax compliance.


    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Manages the Institute's investment accounting process, including, but not limited to:

    Compiles monthly investment journal entries and roll-forward.

    Prepares monthly entries for Funds Held in Trust (FHIT).

    Prepares monthly entries for stock donations.


    Analyzes financial reports provided by external investment managers and custodian bank detailing assets, liabilities and partners' capital accounts for reconciliation and subsequent correction.

    Reconciles the general ledger to the custodian bank and FHIT statements.

    Prepares the quarterly roll-forward of investments for financial statement reporting and analysis.

    Makes recommendations to management on updates to accounting policies related to investments.


    Ensures proper asset type grouping and fair value hierarchy classification of investments for use in valuation testing and financial reporting.

    Performs valuation testing of investments based on Institute procedures for ASC 820 compliance.

    Prepares information for 990 and 990-T tax reporting, including entry of K-1, K-2 and K-3 data into tax software.

    Gathers and provides information for international tax reporting forms and reviews forms prepared by external tax provider.

    Assists in the year-end audit as directed by the Accounting Manager.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing audit schedules and footnotes relating to investments and assisting the auditors in their inquiries.


    Maintains a strong technical accounting understanding by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and/or participating in professional organizations.

    Monitors treasury inbox for communications and information from investment managers and distributes information to appropriate parties.

    Cross-trained with senior fixed asset accountant and acts as back-up when necessary.

    Performs other duties as assigned.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Bachelor's degree in Accounting or business strongly preferred.
    Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting required
    Not-for-profit or higher education experience preferred.
    Previous investment accounting experience strongly preferred.
    Advanced knowledge of Excel experience required; experience with Functions, Pivot Tables, Vlookup a plus
    CPA preferred
    Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management.
    Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
