    We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer for our award-winning Biotech client located in San Diego, CA.

    Overview:

    Location: San Diego, CA

    Duration: 12+ months on a direct W2 contract only (no C2C) with potential to extend.

    Work Schedule: Onsite with flexibility for hybrid

    Anticipated Compensation: $40-50/hr W2 plus benefits.

    The offered compensation to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include (but are not limited to) the type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc.

    Member of a multi-discipline team responsible for the development of consumables and integrated systems for genetic analysis. Focus on design, modeling, materials selection, prototyping, and testing of high-volume disposable devices. Manage the development cycle from early innovation, through development, into manufacturing transfer and commercialization.

    Duties:

    Design, analyze, test, and qualify consumable/disposable devices, both in prototype quantities and in support of pilot and full-scale manufacturing

    Utilizes root cause investigation methodologies to solve functional performance challenges

    Define product specifications, critical parameters, test plans & inspection plans

    Support selection and qualification of materials and processes for development and mfg.

    Independently plan, manage, and prioritize project tasks, track progress toward project goals,

    Perform analysis in support of key mfg. decisions, including make/buy and tooling strategies

    Skills and Experience:

    Manage and direct vendor in the development of custom parts and processes

    Expertise designing plastic components using thermoplastics and elastomeric materials, knowledge of LSR (Liquid Silicone Rubber) molding a plus

    Knowledge of secondary manufacturing processes (laser/die cutting, laminating, roll-to-roll conversion, heat-staking, etc.)

    Experience conducting tolerance stack analysis

    Understanding of metrology inspection methods

    Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

    Requirements:

    BS. or M.S in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of product development experience with a focus on high-volume products.

    Proficiency using GD&T to generate and interpret drawings (ASME GD&T certification a plus)

    Experience using SolidWorks to generate detailed CAD models and drawings

    Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

    Strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills
