The Fleet Mechanic performs mechanical repairs and maintenance on campus trucks, cars, buses, vans, golf carts, mowers, and other campus equipment.

• Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.
• Perform specialized repairs as needed, including welding and making modifications to various equipment and components.
• Perform preventive maintenance on-campus vehicles, changing oil and filters, lubricating vehicle parts, inspecting and replacing hoses, belts, mirrors, and lamps, and maintaining all fluid levels.
• Perform preventive maintenance on shop equipment; maintain the shop, equipment, and tools, keeping them clean and in safe operating condition.
• Safely operate all tools, equipment, and machinery.
• Maintain vehicle rental fleet, including cars, vans, and buses.
• Prepare and coordinate fleet vehicles for rent, washing, vacuuming, and checking fluids and tire pressure for safe travel.
• Operate buses and other vehicles as required.
• Assist other departments when assigned.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Ability to use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.
• Ability to perform gas and electric welding to make repairs and modifications on various equipment and components.
• Ability to use tire repairing equipment, small hand tools, drills, drill presses, grinders, air-powered tools, welding torches, torque wrenches, jack, and various lift equipment.
• Knowledge of relevant safety requirements, and the ability to maintain a safe working area.
• Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
• Good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to give and receive verbal instructions.
• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.

• This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must have three to five years of experience working on various engines and troubleshooting other equipment issues.
• A valid driver's license is required.

• EPA certification in refrigerant handling with all endorsements
• Commercial Driver's License
• Experience with electronic key systems

• Position requires heavy physical activity, and the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
• Requires the ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, and reach.
• Required to use close vision and be able to focus.
• Regularly required to talk and hear; frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
• Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
• Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
• Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

• Will generally work indoors.
• Will occasionally be required to work outdoors and may be exposed to inclement weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
• Exposed to the intense noise of equipment, machinery, and tools.
• Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, inadequate lighting, and working at height.
