- Develops and conducts in-service training for nursing staff on orthopedic equipment and charge capture process.
- Develops and maintains files on teaching activities.
- Analyzes and evaluates new equipment or products. Collaborates with department leadership to attain procurement.
- Monitors, orders and maintains an adequate stock of orthopedic inventory and supplies within established budgetary guidelines.
- Maintains and monitors daily orthopedic charges.
- Completes monthly billing of rented hospital equipment.
- Participates in the development, documentation, and implementation of policies and procedures related to orthopedic unit or orthopedic equipment. Serves as a member on various nursing and hospital committees.
- Participates in monthly staff meetings. Interacts with a variety of ancillary and support departments to resolve problems and provide information.
- Reports difficult and/or complex problems to leadership.
- Performs all the duties of an orthopedic technician, including conducting patient education on various orthopedic devices.
- Two years of college education with emphasis on health care or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Three years of progressively more responsible experience in surgical casting and splinting techniques with extensive knowledge of orthopedic equipment.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) licensure preferred.
