- Serve as one of Legacys Peripartum-Pediatric Navigator who supports high-risk pregnant patients to make and keep prenatal and post-partum care appointments.
- Support Legacys prenatal education program by completing patient scheduling, baby care item distribution, and monthly reporting. Assist with teaching classes and organizing special events such as Baby Shower Parades.
- Support Legacys car seat safety program by completing patient scheduling, car seat inventory, distribution, and monthly reporting. Assist with teaching child passenger safety classes and special events.
- Identify and/or develop handouts, presentations, resources, models, and other teaching tools and materials to effectively convey prenatal, parenting, and child injury prevention information.
- As time and training allow, learn and support other prenatal and parenting curricula at Legacy such as breastfeeding, family planning, and safe sleep.
- Connects patients to eligibility services and other primary and preventative health care services at Legacy.
- Represent Legacys AmeriCorps Program by wearing the AmeriCorps logo daily
- In the event of a local, state, or federal disaster declaration, AmeriCorps members may be asked on a volunteer basis or be required by OneStar to activate to assist in disaster response and recovery activities within their communities. This may involve virtual service opportunities or in-person service opportunities. This may include service opportunities outside of the members standard service hours or in place of their standard service duties. In the event of a large-scale, high needs local, state, or federal disaster, AmeriCorps members may voluntarily or be required by OneStar to deploy to an area outside of their service area to assist in disaster response and recovery activities.

Legacy Community Health is a premium, Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides comprehensive care to community members regardless of their ability to pay.
Our goal is to treat the entire patient while improving their overall wellness and quality of life, in addition to providing free pregnancy tests, HIV/AIDS screening.
At Legacy, we empower patients to lead better lives by promoting healthy behaviors and offering resources such as literacy classes, family planning services, and nutrition and weight management information.
Our roots began in 1981 as the Montrose Clinic, with specialization in HIV education, testing, and treatment.Since then, the agency has expanded to >50 clinics in Houston, one in Baytown, two in Beaumont, and one in Deer Park with extensive services that include:
Adult primary care, HIV/AIDS care, pediatrics, OB/GYN and maternity, dental, vision and behavioral health. We also service students within KIPP and YES Prep schools. Legacy is committed to driving healthy change in our communities.
Position Summary:
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Program Specialist supports Legacy Public Health in providing prenatal and postpartum education and navigation as well as child injury prevention services.
Their work will help address key public health issues such as pre-term birth, low birth weight, and maternal and infant morbidity.
This is an ideal position for a person interested in pursuing obstetrics/gynecology or maternal and child health promotion as a future profession.
This position will work from Legacy Montrose Allen Parkway and then provide direct patient services at three Legacy Clinics across the Houston area.
