Derrickhand

The derrickhand ensures the smooth operation and support of the mud module, including the sack area, mud pumps and pit/shakers. Working under the direction of the Driller but reporting directly to the Rig Manager.

Preventive maintenance is performed on mud pumps and associated equipment, as requested by the Driller or Mud Engineer. Ensuring sufficient chemicals and mixtures meet drilling operations needs. Directing Floorhands assisting with sack handling or shakers. Maintaining general housekeeping, upkeep of equipment in chemical/mud pits/pumps.

Assisting with raising/lowering drill pipe during tripping operations. Essential functions require good short/long term memory, staying alert for up to 12 hour tours. Capable of working 7 or 14 days on/off rotations, including holidays/weekends/nights. 

• Must respond efficiently to instructions from Mud Engineer/Rig Manager, 
• Regularly weigh/mix/suspend at heights above rig floor,
• Routine lifting/carrying/hammer swinging/torque wrench application,
• Bending/stooping/kneeling/twisting/crawling while wearing PPE.
