    JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


    The Information Technology Services Division, located in the Enterprise Operations Office of The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University is seeking a Network Systems Specialist.

    This role will provide high-level network administration, development, and design assistance within ARL's Special Project area.

    It will also support additional enterprise network areas as needed, to ensure ARL's enablement of key research and administrative functions.

    ARL/Penn State's purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities.

    You will:


    Administration, ensuring operations, and secure configuration of ARL's network infrastructureRespond and remediate system and network security vulnerabilitiesImplement, test, and support new and emerging technologies while applying security best practices, and required compliance measuresAnalyzing network traffic and diagnosing/correcting network and performance issuesConduct risk assessments to determine residual level of risk and any required mitigationsParticipate in the implementation of required policies, procedures, and configurations; make recommendations for improvements Oversight of the installation and configuration of networks, and secure enclaves, to comply with Government and Federal regulationsAssisting in the development and acquisition of network management toolsTypically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher, plus 4 years' related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


    Required skills and experience include:


    The ability to certify and maintain information security related certification(Security+, CASP+, CySA+)Knowledge in NIST/ISO standards, DoD directives, and regulatory requirements /53, etc.)


    Network integration in a heterogeneous environmentOperating and providing network administration and support in a high-security research computing environmentPreferred skills and experience include:


    A current, fully adjudicated TOP SECRET (Tier 5) clearance, and counterintelligence polygraphEnterprise WAN/LAN switching and routingNext generation layer 7 firewalls (Palo Alto)Maintenance of secure Windows and Linux serversKnowledge within the development and deployment of secure enclaves and VLANsSkillset to include management of other network supporting services within a secure environment (IPAM/NAC/DNS/DHCP)Possess excellent communication skills.

    Highly motivated and ability to work independently to plan, identify problems, and produce results

    Your working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.
