    JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

    The Berkey Creamery in the College of Agricultural Sciences is hiring an Accountant. The Berkey Creamery has been a Penn State tradition since 1865 and makes not only delicious ice cream but also important contributions to education, research and industry across the globe. The mission of the Berkey Creamery is to support the teaching, research and outreach programs of the Department of Food Science, to provide quality dairy products to students in on-campus housing, and to maintain an economically viable retail outlet for dairy products to the University community.

    Job Responsibilities:

    As an Accountant for the Creamery, you will:

    • Process and reconcile accounting transactions of inventory data from daily operations within current software for sales, ordering, receiving, and materials utilization by cost center.
    • Prepare documentation, including forecasts and cost management reports of purchasing/inventory/sales for analysis and forecasting.
    • Ensure accuracy and compliance with University procedures in general accounting practices.
    • Maintain and track data of accounting/inventory/sales software platform daily.
    • Use forecasting models for ordering inventory/on hand and future inventory of finished goods.
    • Create ad-hoc reports in Microsoft Excel from current inventory software platform.
    • Oversee and monitor accounting processes, schedules and databases.
    • Recommend changes in workflows, procedures and processes in inventory and sales reporting.
    • Ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions/reports.
    • Research and resolve inventory accounting discrepancies.
    • Assist in analyzing inventory trends..
    • Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns and reduce costs/waste.
    • Daily communication with Sales, Purchasing, and Production teams to forecast inventory levels, prepare for seasonal inventory changes. Interpret information, ideas and instructions and communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing including materials intended for distribution.
    • Assist with other accounting duties as assigned which may include Accounts Payable/Receivable/Purchasing backup.
    • Manage spreadsheets, accounts and other data as required.
    • Provide continuous efforts in review, evaluating, and recommending updates and/or changes to improve the flow of production inventory through the supply chain by determining causes of unusual occurrences and apply standard principles and practices to determine and implement solutions.
    • Assist with other accounting duties as assigned which may include Accounts Payable/Receivable/Purchasing backup.

    Education and Experience:

    This position will be filled as a level 2 and typically requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus 2 or more years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate will have effective knowledge of GAAP and accounting software ERP systems with application to retail and/or manufacturing facilities as well as experience with Microsoft Office Products including Excel/Word/Outlook/Teams.
