Overview:
Under general direction,
manages, maintains, and secures the Office's database systems; oversees database design, implementation, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal performance and data integrity; enhances the efficiency and security of the database infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, implement, and maintain database systems for optimal performance and reliability;
Monitor database performance, implement changes, and apply new patches and versions when required;
Ensure database security (working closely with the data security team), backup, and recovery plans are in place and effective;
Collaborate with IT teams to integrate databases with other software applications. Provide technical expertise and support in database design, development, and management;
Analyze and report on database performance and suggest improvements;
Completes necessary education, training, and certifications to stay abreast of latest technologies effecting Illinois Secretary of State information security;
Travels as necessary for education and meetings;
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Specific Skills:
Requires working knowledge of
database administration, management, or a related field .
Requires working knowledge of
database languages like SQL, and experience with database management software .
Requires working knowledge of
scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell .
Requires skill with
cloud-based database services .
Requires skill with
data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL .
Requires
experience in a government or public sector IT environment .
Requires
excellent problem-solving and analytical skills .
Requires advanced database certifications (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL).
Requires strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with various IT teams.
Requires willingness to travel and possession of a valid Illinois driver's license as required by individual positions within the class.
Ability to lift/carry, push/pull 0 – 50 lbs.Education and Work Experience:
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, with coursework in the computer science field
AND
2.5 years of technical systems and programming experience as would be gained as an Information Systems Technician or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
