    Overview

    The Software Engineering Professional collaborates with engineers and scientists to develop, modify and/or test software solutions and applications.


    What you'll do:


    Contribute to efforts of the existing team that conducts research on optimal ways of encoding speech and music for cochlear implant recipients.

    Develop firmware for microcontroller-based systems.
    Participate in development lifecycle activities including specification, design, debugging, test development, formal verification, failure analysis and sustaining engineering.
    Develop and maintain Windows desktop software application using the C# programming language
    Ensure adherence of designs and processes to applicable industry standards and internal quality system standards. The successful candidate will routinely interface with other disciplines throughout R&D to balance requirements, performance, schedule and cost.

    Education
    Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

    Nice to Have
    Masters or Ph.
    D. preferred.

    Work Experience
    Work experience acquired in an entry-level position, or appropriate graduate-level study.
    Experience in Class-III medical industry is an asset.

    Social Competencies
    Application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out engineering tasks.
    Limited judgment on details of work and in making preliminary selections or adaptations of engineering alternatives.

    Professional Competencies
    Experience in rudimentary programming languages and environments (e.g. C, C++, C#, Python, Matlab, LabView, MS Visual Studio .NET) for automation, test and hardware debug.
    Familiarity with the use and programming of requisite test equipment (e.g. logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, function generators, power supplies, data acquisition and control systems) for customization and automation of repetitive or timing sensitive test and measurement functions.

    Analog and RF circuit design, debug, test and verification at the component, board and system level including a solid understanding of PCB layout and fabrication processes and experience optimizing PCB layout for attributes such as signal integrity and self-interference preferred.

    Experience with ARM based microcontrollers, Real Time Operating Systems and Digital design preferred. Working knowledge of high level digital design languages (e.g. VHDL, Verilog) and their application to FPGAs is an asset.
    Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in all aspects of design, documentation and verification.
    Strong interpersonal and technical communication skills within an electrical engineering team and across multidisciplinary engineering groups.
    Supervisor screens assignments, selects techniques and procedures. Receives close supervision.
    May be responsible for the direction of a few aides, technicians or interns.
    Ability to document process and designs properly.
    Ability to communicate effectively.
    Maintains a positive and collaborative work environment.

    $72,000/yr - $108,000/yr
