- The PRE-OP Nurse is responsible for covering all available tours of duty during the PRE-OP hours of operation.
- The PRE-OP Nurse successfully performs activities appropriate to their grade as outlined in the Nurse Qualification Standard Standard below.
- The PRE-OP Nurse provides care and education for patients in the pre-operative phase of the perioperative process while working effectively with other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care.
- The PRE-OP Nurse identifies nursing diagnoses that are consistent with the assessment data and validates the same with other professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care.
- The PRE-OP Nurse identifies nursing diagnoses that are consistent with the assessment data and validates the same with the patient and health care providers when possible.
- The PRE-OP Nurse performs comprehensive chart reviews, follows-up on consults and tests performed and provides teaching with regards to upcoming patient surgery.
- The PRE-OP Nurse acts as a patient and family advocate and identifies surgical outcomes, provides pre-operative education and accurately documents in the patient chart. T
- The PRE-OP Nurse demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- The PRE-OP Nurse participates in orientation, unit based in-services, and mandatory education activities in a self-directed manner.
- Upon completion of unit based orientation and critical care training, the PRE-OP Nurse may float to SDSU as necessary.
- 3-5 Years Acute Care or Critical Care Inpatient Medical or Surgical Nursing Care Experience within the past 5 years.
- Strong Phlebotomy Skills.

Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Duties
The Pre-Operative Unit (PRE-OP) Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in the Perioperative Unit. He or she adheres to established policies, standards of care, and standards of practice. The PRE-OP Nurse reports the Nurse Manager of the PRE-OP Clinic.
Duties include but are not limited to:
