The Stroke Neuro Unit is a 24-bed unit that includes telemetry beds devoted to the care of the Stoke patient.
A multidisciplinary approach is taken when managing care contributing to quality outcomes.All patients presenting with the diagnosis of stroke/TIA and neuro except those who meet specific criteria for exclusion (listed below) should be admitted to the Stroke Unit.
Stroke/TIA patients will have continuous heart rhythm monitoring as ordered in the stroke/TIA admission order protocol and neuro patients will have continuous heart rhythm monitoring as ordered in the neuro orders.
All nursing staff that routinely manages patients in the stroke neuro unit will achieve and maintain certification on the NIH stroke scale and ACLS with arrhythmia interpretation.
Consider bringing your expertise to a dynamic unit.The selected candidate will join a team of Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Physicians, Residents, and other esteemed members of the interdisciplinary team to provide care to our valued patient population.
Support staff on the unit includes Stroke Coordinator, Respiratory Therapy, physical and occupational and speech therapy, case management, nutritional services, social work, pharmacy, pastoral care, and community nursing serviceThe unit is managed by the Nurse Manager with a designated charge nurse each shift. The house nursing supervisor provides leadership during off hours and on weekends. Flexible self-scheduling, with designated third weekend commitment and accommodating three holidays per year.
Preferred:
High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Other:
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program.
Individuals working as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Tech roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Tech position.
