    Description

    Under general supervision of the US Tax Senior Manager, the Manager - State Income Tax will primarily be responsible for overseeing the management of McDonald's US direct state income and franchise tax operations. The position will manage an internal tax professional and maintain strong relationships with external advisors. Additionally, the position will be responsible for state tax accounting, budgeting, audits, and special projects.

    Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the US Tax Senior Manager, oversee the company's US direct income tax accounting function, including quarterly calculations, tax reserves, and discrete items.
  • Oversee income tax co-sourced arrangement, including extension and estimated payments.
  • Direct responsibility for US state income tax examinations, including both those handled internally and by 3rd party consultants.
  • Lead day-to-day tasks of direct report(s).
  • Hire, develop, and review direct report(s) with an eye towards succession planning across the tax organization.
  • Lead special projects with 3rd party consultants.
  • Implement process improvements across the state income landscape, working with internal tax technology resources to ensure department technology strategy alignment across functions, and alignment with overall finance modernization objectives.
  • Identify and implement standard methodologies within state tax compliance and accounting.
  • Advise Global Tax leadership on new legislation and interpretations of existing regulations.
  • Work cross-functionally with other Tax Operations and Planning teams as needed.
  • Qualifications:
  • Possesses 8+ years' tax experience in either a large US multinational and/or CPA firm supporting multi-state operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required; MST and/or CPA a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Excel required; Alteryx and OneSource Tax Provision preferred.
  • Ability to understand and respond to a variety of organizational collaborators, identifying when to resolve issues and/or obtain assistance from internal team members, supervisors, or outside specialists.
  • Ability to influence internal stakeholders, co-sourcing firms/advisors, and governmental auditors.
  • Development mentality in approach to direct reports, with ability to establish and act upon development plans.
  • Ability to work with peers when forecasting departmental resource needs, adjusting short-term plans as required.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity, developing processes, and utilizing technology to improve work streams.
