Under the general direction of the Institution Chief Medical Executive, the Chief Physician & Surgeon, Correctional Facility, directly supervises all civil service and contract medical physicians and mid-level providers assigned to the institution and works collaboratively with other clinical and custody supervisors and managers to ensure medical services are provided safely, timely, effectively, and efficiently to the patient population at the assigned institution.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners. (Applicants who are in the process of securing approval of their qualifications by the Medical Board of California or the Board of Osteopathic Examiners will be admitted to the examination, but the Board to which application is made must determine that all legal requirements have been met before candidates will be eligible for appointment.) And
Possession of a valid certificate issued by an American Medical Specialty Board or an American Osteopathic Board as a specialist in one of the fields of medicine, or eligibility for examination for such a certificate as evidenced by a written statement from the Secretary of an American Specialty Board or an American Osteopathic Board. (Applicants who are in the process of establishing specialty board eligibility will be admitted to the examination but the required verification must be submitted before appointment.)
To obtain list eligibility for the CHIEF PHYSICIAN AND SURGEON, CORRECTIONAL FACILITY before applying for the position, you must first take and pass the examination.
Working Conditions

Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
