    Posting Detail Information

    Position Summary
The University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York seeks a cohort of three postdoctoral research associates to join a research team coordinated by the UB Institute for Learning Sciences housed in the Graduate School of Education. The Institute aims to support sustained, systemic, and interdisciplinary research and design in how learning can address pressing societal problems by linking faculty in the Graduate School of Education, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Architecture and Urban Planning. The institute addresses the role of learning as it relates to four focal themes: social justice and equity; sustainability; new literacies for and with technology; and human development and thriving. This research takes place in one or more of three areas of impact: community-engaged research-practice partnerships on learning; technology research and development for learning; and research leading to institutional transformation of learning at and with the university.

Postdoctoral research associates will engage in apprenticeship with existing research projects at the university, and help shape new projects launched by the Institute. Postdoctoral research associates will be matched with one or two institute faculty most closely aligned with their interests, in addition to receiving structured mentorship from the institute director and the institute faculty as a whole. Candidates may have the opportunity to continue existing research if it aligns with institute goals and can be supported by mentor faculty.

Postdoctoral research associates will be provided with up to $5,000 each year to support research, travel, and conference presentations. The preferred start date is July 1, 2024, but this is negotiable. This is a 12-month full-time position lasting two years. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis by the start of the appointment.

Duties for the position will include:
    • Participation in existing research projects at UB, which may include support for study designs, data collection, instrument design, instructional design, technology design and implementation, data analysis, and/or other related activities as appropriate to the individual project.
    • Supporting the UB ILS institute activities in establishing new collaborative research, including participating in writing of shared whitepapers, research planning and visioning activities, grant writing, community outreach activities, and/or design and prototyping new learning environments
    • Participation with other postdoctoral research associates in the cohort on mutual professional development activities
    • As negotiated, continuing existing research from the postdoctoral research associate's previous work, e.g., publishing from the dissertation
The postdoctoral research associates selected will be supported in creating an annual professional development plan, and additional activities may be assigned to support the individual's professional development goals (e.g., auditing a course to develop a particular research skill, etc.)
