Bioinformatician A:
The Human Immunology Core at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine is seeking a skilled and motivated bioinformatician to join our team to analyze large immune repertoire datasets (next generation sequencing of antibody and T cell receptor gene rearrangements).
This individual will be responsible for assuring the quality of sequencing data using existing tools, aggregating data into databases, creating relevant figures and statistical analyses on a per-project basis, and work with the lead bioinformatician to submit sequencing data to publicly available repositories.
Bioinformatician B:
In addition to the duties described above for the Bioinformatician A, the Bioinformatician B will create and document reusable software tools that can be used across multiple projects, providing clients with figures and data that is relevant to their project.
The bioinformatician will also assist with employee training for routine data quality control, analysis and visualization. Finally, the bioinformatician will contribute to manuscripts, reports, and grant applications based on the biological significance of each dataset.Position contingent upon funding*Qualifications
This position requires knowledge of the command line, extensive experience with Python, relational databases, data visualization, and manipulating large datasets.
Experience with formal software design patterns and testing is recommended but not required. A master's degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or data science is preferred. Experience writing scientific papers is also recommended but not required.The candidate should be willing to learn about immune repertoire profiling including understanding the nuance of wet-bench procedures through final data analysis.
Bioinformatician B:
In addition to the qualifications of the Bioinformatician A, the Bioinformatician B should have at least 1 year of work experience in biomedical data analysis, preferably in a role where the informatician needs to work closely with wet bench investigators generating multi-omics data (e.g., immunophenotyping, RNAseq, single cell sequencing data, immune repertoire profiling).
Familiarity with immunology assays, creation of bioinformatics pipelines, software testing, and database management and/or laboratory information management systems (LIMS) would be additional areas of preferred expertise or experience.
