    Medcentrek is seeking an Occupational Therapists to work at the Center for the Intreped at Brook Army Medical Center.

    The threefold mission of the CFI is to provide rehabilitation for OIF/OEF casualties who have sustained amputation, burns, or functional limb loss, to provide education to DoD and Department of Veteran's Affairs professionals on cutting edge rehabilitation modalities, and to promote research in the fields of Orthopaedics, prosthetics and physical/occupational rehabilitation.

    The staff and equipment for the building was selected to provide the full spectrum of amputee rehabilitation as well as the advanced outpatient rehabilitation for burn victims and limb salvage patients with residual functional loss.


    POSITION QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS:

    Degree:
    Master's degree in

    Occupational Therapy Education:
    Graduate from a program in occupational therapy accredited at the time of graduation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) or predecessor organization, to include an internship prescribed by the education institution


    License:
    Current, full, active, and unrestricted license from any U.S. jurisdiction to practice as an occupational therapist.


    Experience:

    Have at least (2) years' experience providing direct patient care in and outpatient setting and/or occupational therapy rehabilitation within the United States.

    Must have thorough knowledge of the theories and principle of upper and lower extremity prosthetics and orthotics.


    Certification:
    Shall have current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), by way of the American Heart Association approved training program

    DUTIES:
    Provide a full spectrum of occupational therapy services in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the MTF

    SPECIFIC

    DUTIES:
    Evaluate and treat deficits in occupational performance components that include motor, neuro- musculoskeletal, cognitive, social, and psychological dysfunction.

    Treatment includes individual and group-based purposeful activity, exercise, physical agent modalities, assistive technology and vision interventions, seating assessments and recommendations, fabrication and training in the use of temporary functional orthotics, splints and adaptive devices, counseling, and education.

    Provide assessment, education, and training in the areas of health promotion and disease/injury prevention, to include prevention of psychological dysfunction and stress management Administer and interpret occupational therapy assessment and evaluation tools.

    Participate in research as it pertains to clinical practice and contribute collaboratively with interdisciplinary team to further Occupational Therapy's evidence base.

    Interpret evaluation findings to develop and coordinate interdisciplinary plans of care, including goals and methods to achieve stated goals. Implement the intervention plans directly or in collaboration with others. Monitor the individual's response to interventions and modify treatment plan and reevaluate as necessary. Communicate and/or collaborate with the patients, family members, caregivers, interdisciplinary professionals or other individuals verbally and in writing. Provide clinical oversight to Occupational Therapy Assistants and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and Recreational Therapist and Recreational Therapy Assistants. Provide professional guidance, counseling, and evaluation and assist in directing activities and training of any assigned student. Interact effectively with patients and health professionals. Maintain a high quality standard of health care. Perform all duties with minimal supervision or guidance.

    The contract employees shall consult with the section chief for their assigned area and then the Director or Program Manager for the Center for the Intrepid when issues cannot be resolved at the section level.

    The Occupational Therapist may be required to travel with patients on rehabilitation and community integration activities. Such trips will be conducted during the traditional duty day, with Government-owned and Government-operated vehicles. Be able to provide transportation to and from patient activities/outings using a government vehicle.

    The employee will perform, when requested, as a clinical instructor in full compliance with the guidelines established by the Texas Chapter of the American Occupational Therapy Association for the mastery and assessment of clinical skills or according to other guidelines established by the Occupational Therapy school of the affiliating student.


    HOURS:

    Work hours are anytime between the hours of 6:00 am to 8:00pm Specific days of the week may include weekends however work week will not exceed 40 hours.
