Position Overview
This Senior Lecturer (12-month) position will entail teaching the equivalent of 10 3-credit special education courses per academic year, although the number of courses taught may be reduced in some semesters depending on advising, supervision, and administrative work. Teaching responsibilities will involve undergraduate courses for preservice special education teachers. Responsibilities will include maintaining or modifying course content in Canvas, providing timely feedback and grades on student assignments, holding weekly office hours, communicating with and supporting students, and monitoring student progress to identify those falling behind. Teaching assignments will also include supervision of students in fieldwork. Teaching assignments may also involve distance or online courses and curriculum development as needed. Administrative responsibilities will focus on spearheading compliance and accreditation activities related to teaching licensure, coordination of field placements and student teaching, training and overseeing staff who supervise fieldwork and student teaching placements, coordinating with the Office of Accreditation, Placement, and Licensure (APL) to ensure that students meet program requirements and competencies at appropriate fieldwork placements, and serving as the first point of contact for student in undergraduate teacher preparation programs in special education. The individual will attend program and department faculty meetings and engage in ongoing professional development. Other duties as assigned.

The individual in the Senior Lecturer position in Special Education is expected to:
- achieve excellence in teaching and supervision
- ensure that the program meets compliance and accreditation standards related to undergraduate teacher preparation in special education
- consistently attend and contribute to program and department faculty meetings
- consistently engage in ongoing professional development
Education and Experience Requirements
Required: PhD or Masters Degree in Special Education Completed by Date of Hire, at least 3 years of experience as a special education teacher
Desired: PhD Completed by Date of Hire, at least 5 years of experience as a special education teacher, familiarity with accreditation standards for teacher preparation programs, experience supervising teachers/teacher candidates, college teaching and curriculum development experience, administrative/leadership experience, expertise in the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) high-leverage practices.

The Department of Educational Studies is a multi-disciplinary department, offering both undergraduate and graduate programs. The department offers graduate programs in Special Education, Educational Administration, School Psychology, Educational Psychology, Counselor Education, Workforce Development, Learning Technologies, Educational History & Philosophy, Educational Policy, Higher Education & Student Affairs, and Quantitative Research, Evaluation, and Methodology. The department also offers undergraduate licensure programs in Special Education, Business Education, and Family/Consumer Sciences. Our School Psychology program is accredited by APA and NASP, and our Counselor Education program is accredited by CACREP. Our undergraduate programs have CAEP accreditation and our applied behavior analysis program in special education is accredited by ABAI. We also offer accelerated licensure programs for prospective principals and superintendents. More than half of our graduate programs are nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report.
