Description
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Diagnostic Medical Physicist 2 is responsible for those duties requiring specialized knowledge and training in radiological physics within the Aspirus system.
The Diagnostic Medical Physicist 2 works under the supervision and direction of the Director of Radiology.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Experience
Identifies opportunities to improve patient experience. Participates in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
Patient/Staff/Environmental Safety
Identifies opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, and patient and staff safety. Participates in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
Job Specific Duties
Under the supervision of the Director of Radiology:
Directs the activities of medical physics related to Imaging Services for the Aspirus System.
Conducts and oversees acceptance testing, equipment performance evaluation and quality control of imaging equipment across the Aspirus enterprise as directed.
Assists with imaging equipment accreditation programs across the enterprise as requested.Participates in the selection process for new imaging equipment.
Provides calculations for shielding design of diagnostic x-ray, CT and nuclear medicine rooms and provides onsite shielding evaluations as necessary.
Holds the role as the Radiation Safety Officer and manages the license for the use of radioactive material at Aspirus Wausau and Medford Hospitals.
Manages the Radiation Safety Program and Chairs the Radiation Safety Committees for both locations.Participates in new technology assessment and evaluation of new technology for imaging and radiation safety.
Assists in system-wide education regarding radiation safety.
Is accountable for compliance with all regulatory standards related to quality control, medical physics testing and radiation safety.
Actively participates in efforts to ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards.
Performs medical physics and radiation safety consulting for other regional health care providers as approved by the Aspirus management.
Available as resource to all Aspirus staff and patients regarding medical physics questions.Performs other duties as assigned.
Department Specific Accountabilities
Maintains department specific accountabilities as determined, maintained, and housed within each unit s Scope of Service.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education
Knowledge of clinical diagnostic medical physics and radiation safety obtained through completion of a Master's Degree in medical physics or the physical sciences required, with residency or fellowship.
Experience
A minimum of five years prior clinical experience as a hospital medical physicist or radiation physicist required.
Required
Must be able to serve as a Radiation Safety Officer.
Must meet eligibility standards to sit for Part 1 of the Medical Physicist certification through American Board of Radiology.
Other
Additional certification and experience in nuclear medicine preferred.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations governing the use of radioactive materials in a medical environment.
Ability to establish goals, structures, and processes necessary to implement a mission and strategic vision to ensure a safe work environment for employees involved or associated with the use of radiation and/or radioactive materials.
Ability to network and interact as well as support effective partnerships with key committees, groups, and individuals.Possesses consultation and change management skills.
